Spring Election candidates announced

5 area school board seats contested

The Spring Election is scheduled for April 1, with various school board, city and village board seats up for election. Candidates had until 5 p.m. Jan. 7 to file paperwork to run for school board or municipal office. The following is the updated list of who will be on the ballot.

School boards The Granton School Board has just one member up for reelection: Dennis Kuehn. Jamie Elmhorst will be running against him.

For the Greenwood School Board, Jamie Gardner is up for election for Area 1. Shawn Kolano and incumbent Jessica Wolf are running against each other for Area 4.

The Loyal School Board has three seats up for election this spring, all of which are contested. For the area north of Highway 98, incumbent Dave Clintsman is running against Adam Smith. For the area south of Highway 98, incumbent Dennis Roehl is running against Nikki Rueth. For one of the at-large seats, Carrie Becker is facing off against Crystal Rueth. Becker previously represented the city of Loyal on the school board for two terms, spanning from 2018 to 2024. School board members serve for three years.

The Spencer School Board has two members up for reelection this spring, both representing Area 1, the village of Spencer. Incumbents Barbara Wesle and James Kelnhofer will have their names appear on the ballot.

Muncipal boards In the village of Granton, John Garbisch, incumbent, is running for village president and Troy Moen, incumbent, is running for village board trustee.

ThecityofGreenwoodhastwocandidates running unopposed. Incumbent Dean Hinker is running to represent Ward 2 (east of Highway 73). Abby Bolf decided not to run again for Ward 1 (west of Highway 73); however, Mitch Behrens is running in her stead.

The city of Loyal has four council seats up for election. The following individuals are running unopposed: incumbent Curtiss Lindner to represent Ward 1, Amanda Stephens to represent Ward 1, Gwen Klevgard to represent Ward 2, and incumbent Greg Brock to represent Ward 2. Ward 1 mostly consists of the area north of Central Street, while Ward 2 is south of Central Street. Incumbent Carmen Englebretson is also running unopposed for mayor.

For the village of Spencer, four village board members are running unopposed to serve another term. They are Bill Hoes, Harry Toufar, Tom Schafer and Jeremy Carolfi.
