Grell, Krueger not running for re-election

By Casey Krautkramer and Kevin O’Brien

Stratford village president Keith Grell and Athens School Board president Tim Krueger have both decided not to run for re-election this spring, opening up two important leadership positions for those interested in running for office.

Grell and Krueger were the only local elected officials to declare their non-candidacy by last Friday’s deadline, which means most incumbents will likely be seeking new terms in the April 1 election, assuming they turn in their registration papers by the Jan. 7 deadline.

Grell has served as Stratford’s village president since 2019, when he ran unopposed to take over for Harvey “Bud” Suckow, who served 12 years as president after 10 years as a trustee. Other Stratford officials up for reelection include trustees Todd Belter, Maryel Schoenfuss, and Troy Wiesman.

Krueger has served on the Athens School Board for a little over a decade and is currently finishing out a two-year term. Board member Angie Servi will be running for a new three-year term.

Those wishing to be on the spring ballot have until Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 5 p.m to submit declarations of candidacy, campaign signatures and other required paperwork. If no candidates declare their candidacy for an open seat, the deadline for candidates to register will be extended three days until Friday, Jan. 10, at 5 p.m.
