Sheriff’s office releases name of bicyclist killed in crash
One person is dead after the bicycle they were on was involved in a crash on County Highway N by Dickerson Avenue in the town of Worden.
According to a press release issued by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office last Friday, Sept. 27, the sheriff’s office received a 911 call of a crash at about 8:46 a.m. on Sept. 17. Initial investigation indicates a semi-tractor trailer being operated by Richard Wnek, 63, was eastbound on County Highway N when it struck a bicycle that was also eastbound. Andrew Niedzwicki, 65, was on the bicycle near the south shoulder of the roadway when the passing semi-tractor and trailer struck him, throwing him from the bicycle into the south shoulder of the roadway. Wnek pulled over the semi after striking Niedzwicki, and called 911 to report the crash.
Niedzwicki was transported by the Thorp Area Ambulance Service to the Stanley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries. Wnek was unharmed in the crash.
According to his obituary, Niedzwiecki taught special education at the Fall Creek School District from Aug. 23, 1993, until his retirement on June 10, 2015, and was a beloved coach and mentor to many of his students and teachers, coaching football, basketball and girls’ softball. He loved watching the Milwaukee Brewers, taking care of his animals, and fishing.
The ThorpArea Fire andAmbulance Service responded to the incident, along with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Clark County Highway Department, Wisconsin State Patrol and Clark County Coroner Clarissa Rochester.
The investigation is continuing by the Clark County Sheriff’s and Coroner’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
