A plan by the City of Medford to require inspections of residential water connections to check for proper installations of backflow preventers and anti-siphon devices was put on hold Tuesday night. Aldermen voted to table action on implementing the proposed residential cross connection program and instead speak with area state legislators to try and get relief from the state mandate.

The Wisconsin Gospel Music Association will hold a public concert at the Multi-purpose Building of the fairgrounds in Medford on Saturday, June 21 from noon until 5:30 p.m. Featured groups from throughout the state include: “The Kings Trio”, “The Stricklin Family,” “Blind Faith” and “Heartstrings.” Gospel Music Association members come together at these informal events to share their music with other gospel music performers and with the public.

Taylor county has received an advance payment from the state division of highways totaling $190,593.34. This includes $17,487.24 to Medford, $7,264.73 to Gilman, $2,957.78 to Lublin, $8,103.63 to Rib Lake, $2,015.10 to Stetsonville, and $152,764.86 to 22 towns in the county. The state division has given advance payments totaling $20.6 million to every city, village and town in Wisconsin from state highway revenue collections.

Herman Lemke of the Medford Motors said Wednesday afternoon that it was hoped the company could begin the erection of a new garage building within the next few weeks, but he added that he could not give assurance this could be done. The company has purchased a tract of land immediately south of the Medford Brewery, and plans and specifications have been submitted to state and federal authorities for a cement block building 60 ft. x 120 ft. The building presently housing the Medford Motors was purchased June 4 by the Mundt Auto Company of Stetsonville.

Thursday, July 6th, is the last day upon which application for final citizenship papers may be made in order to secure them at the hearing of October 6th. Application must be made to Clerk of Court V.A. Hibard. Examination of the applicants will be made at the Taylor County Courthouse by Naturalization Examiner R. K. Doe of Duluth before Judge G. N. Risjord, on Saturday, October 6th.

John Benn, who successfully passed the U.S. civil service examination before the board of examiners at Stevens Point last year for the railway mail service, received notice of his appointment early this week to a position on a route from Milwaukee. He expects to leave in a day or two to assume the duties of his new position, for which he will receive annually the sum of $800, with fair prospects of a raise if his services proves satisfactory. John is to be congratulated.
