Shred Event May 10 at Prevail Bank

Every pound benefits Suicide Awareness & Prevention

Prevail Bank encourages the Medford community to bring their confidential papers to its Prevail Bank – Medford branch (675 E Broadway Ave.) to be shredded on Tuesday, May 10, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. for free (while capacity allows).

For every pound of paper shredded, Prevail Bank will donate a dollar, up to $1,000, to Suicide Awareness & Prevention in Taylor County. It is a growing concern. In 2020, 861 Wisconsin residents died by suicide. The Taylor County Human Services department works closely with the Northern Region Crisis Consortium implementing programs locally that raises awareness and prevention of suicides. Prevail Bank’s donation to Taylor County Human Services would also help fund the transportation of individuals to a crisis facilities, medications for those who can’t afford them, mental health counseling services, and the costs associated with access to care, safety, stabilization services, and new crisis avoidance.

“From an identity theft perspective, shredding confidential information is very important,” said Pam Nerison, Prevail Bank Customer Service Representative III. “I hope everyone takes advantage of this opportunity.”

According to Experian, identity theft affects about 1 in 20 Americans each year, and it’s rising rapidly. During the 2020 holidays, 24% of 1,000 surveyed respondents reported being a victim of identity theft or fraud – double the percentage from 2019. Identity theft occurs when another person takes pieces of your personal information and assumes it as their own, thereby causing damage to your credit, as well as your name. Credit monitoring and identity theft restoration services do exist. Information on ID TheftSmart services can be obtained from a Prevail Bank professional.

“Shred Day is a win-win,” said Nerison, “The community benefits through the free shred service we’re providing and a local nonprofit receives a donation.”

If every Prevail Bank branch shreds at least 1,000 pounds, Prevail Bank will be donating a total of $9,000, split between nine nonprofits!

“The organizations that were chosen by our nine branches are extremely important to the health, vitality, and economic stability of the communities we live in and serve,” said Nathan Quinnell, President of Prevail Bank. “I’m hoping we can write a $1,000 check to each and every one of them.”

Individuals are limited to three (3) boxes of paper per person, while capacity allows. A donation of $5 per box thereafter is encouraged. The following items cannot be shredded: black butterfly clips, hanging file folders, 3-ring binders, hard drives, magnetic tapes, any plastic items.
