Monday night brought together numerous people from around the Medford community to participate in the Taylor County Autism Support Group’s “Autism Awareness Walk.”

President Kristine Brandner spoke on behalf of the organization to thank everyone for their continued support in raising awareness.

Taylor County Autism Support Group is a non-profit organization that educates parents, community, and school staff members and raises awareness of the Autism Spectrum.

Joseph Greget, Director of Special Education of the Medford School District said “There are estimated 30 or so students who are on the autism spectrum in the district right now.”

As a way to raise funds, t-shirts were sold along with the Awareness floral wall. For a dollar, participants could buy a flower to honor someone they know, or are related to who has autism and put it on the wall.

Participants could get their photos taken with the selfie frame, tag the Taylor County Autism Support Group’s Facebook page in the photo, and receive a free t-shirt.

Treasurer Diane Messman and her husband Wayne, have a daughter who has autism and they not only want to raise awareness, but also acceptance.

The Taylor County Autism Support Group meets every 3rd Monday of every month from 6-7 p.m. at the Medford Frances L. Simek Memorial Library. During these monthly meetings, the organization supports all those with and impacted by Autism, there are parent chats, family fun nights, guest speakers, a safe place to express feelings, education and much more.
