New street lights proposed at the Gibson Drive and CTH O and CTH O and Q intersections fell into the category of nice to have but not worth the expense at the Taylor County Highway Committee meeting Tuesday afternoon. Earlier this fall, the county’s traffic safety committee and law enforcement had asked the highway department to consider the additional streetlights because of the amount of traffic on CTH O. However, in looking into it, highway commissioner, Jess Sackmann said the cost for renting a transformer and light would be about $50 per month compared with just under $30 per month if the county purchased the transformer plus the expense of installing a new pole.

The Rib Lake School Board gave permission at its last meeting for Bus Contractor Randy Christianson to install video cameras on the RMC school buses. At this time, the video cameras will not be used on schoolowned buses. The request was tabled for the last two months while administration formulated a policy on the use of video cameras. RMC may not put video cameras into use until the board votes.

An ordinance was introduced during a Medford city council meeting Tuesday night to change the numbers and boundaries of the present four wards in order to revert back to five wards. The action was precipitated by an ordinance passed by the Taylor county board of supervisors Monday reapportioning the county and establishing five supervisory seats on the board from the city. The city formerly had five wards, reducing the number to four in 1967. Official notice of intent to create five wards appears in this issue and will be printed again December 30.

The 1947 budget for the city of Medford, as approved Tuesday night by the city council, calls for a tax rate of $4.50 per $100 assessed valuation. This represents an increase of $.30 per $100 over last year’s $4.20 rate. The adopted budget which totals $162,088.94, is $22,627.13 higher than the $139,461.81 budget adopted last year. The amount to be raised for school purposes is $49,952.54, which is $1.68 per $100.

The W.C.T.U. of the ninth District are holding their ninth Annual Convention at Medford in the Temperance Hall recently built by the ladies of the W.C.T.U. and furnished by the Loyal Temperance Legion. Wednesday December 9 at 2 p.m., the convention was opened with Mrs. F I. Follitt of Spencer in the chair as President and Mrs. Anna B. Chave of Tomahawk as secretary. The consecrative services were held by Mrs. Ingham of Medford.
