Sidewalk will be used as snowmobile trail along a portion of Hwy 13 this winter. In response to a request from Hwy 13 business owners at Monday’s committee of the whole meeting, aldermen recommended allowing the sidewalk on the west side of the highway to remain unplowed and used for snowmobile access from the north intersection with Allman St. According to Al Williams, owner of Happy Joe’s Pizza and Ice Cream Parlor, his business sees a lot of snowmobile traffic each winter as do the Welcome Inn and Woodland Inn motels and the KFC/Taco Bell restaurant located across the highway from his business.

Rolling Stone magazine will stay on the library shelf at Rib Lake High School. That was the overwhelming decision of the School Board last Thursday when it voted 6-1 (Borchardt voting no) to retain the challenged magazine. Board member Steven Borchardt said, “I’ve read through the magazine...and it is very inconsistent with what we as a board are asked to be responsible for...I would like to move that we place this issue of Rolling Stone on the restricted shelf and cancel the subscription.”

Medford High School came from behind and won a fast basketball game on Friday evening. The boys showed up well and proved that they could play with spirit when behind as well as when in the lead. Medford led 7 to 2 at one time in the first period, but the half ended in the Rapids’ favor 11 to 9. Wisconsin Rapids continued to score in the second period but Medford boys tore loose with an offense that counted ten points in the remaining minutes.

This is an extract from Outing that follows a description of a charge of lions on a hunters’ camp. It shows how lion hunting gets to be decidedly interesting: “We followed the direction the lions had taken, bulls-eye lantern in hand. The light streamed to the right then to the left, as the Zulu guided its beams. The light streamed straight ahead and revealed a lion.”
