Swim head coach Anne Burghaus named Hannah Grunewald the Most Valuable Swimmer, Samantha Bowe and Samantha Poehler the Most Improved Swimmers and Mara Schumacher the winner of the Hustle Award. Burghaus also presented the following: Letters--Tara Buehler, Polly Coyer (mgr.), Hannah Grunewald, Monica Bennett, Katie Homeyer, Alexa Temme, Morgan Wilson, Hanna Dietzman, Kelli Hirt, Abbie Bergman, Samantha Bowe, Josie Brost, Makenzie Gingras, Alyssa Loertscher, Sarah Lundy, Maria Neubauer, Samantha Poehler, Mara Schumacher.

The Christmas season will officially arrive in Medford at 6 p.m. this Friday, November 29. Thatâs when Santa Claus will arrive in downtown Medford to turn on the cityâs Christmas decorations. He will be accompanied by the Three Little Pigs and the Christmas Mouse. Santa and friends will also be at various downtown stores where he will greet youngsters and provide them with treats.

Harry Sweda, elementary supervisor of the Gilman area school district, was elected president of the Taylor County Mental Health Assn. at a meeting in Medford last week. Sweda succeeds Robert Borck, elementary coordinator of the Medford area school district who served for three and one-half years. He accepted the vice president post for the ensuing year. Named with them were secretary Mrs. Richard Krueger and treasurer Mrs. Harold Gowey. Newly named to the board of directors was Glen Fischer, elementary supervisor of the Rib Lake area school district.

A federal forest bridge crew from Park Falls, supplemented by local help, is starting this week at building a new two lane substantial bridge to replace the narrow temporary structure that now spans Mondeaux river just north of the dam that forms Mondeaux flowage. It will be a 52 foot span wooden timber bridge, known as a pile bent bridge, with two center bents in addition to the bent at each end.

A resolution was also passed reducing Training School Supt. Wheelockâs salary from $3,000 to $2,400, but this is without effect, as the training school committee has control of Mr. Wheelockâs salary. The salary of board members remains as heretofore. It was raised a few years ago from $3 to $4 per day. The law provides for $4, with a maximum provision of $5.

Following an honored custom and in conformity with the proclamation of the president of the United States, I, William H. Upham, governor of the State of Wisconsin, do hereby set apart Thursday, the 26th day of November, 1896, as a day of public thanksgiving. Notwithstanding the general industrial depression which has prevailed in the country we have been favored with unprecedented crops.
