An electrical engineer with more than 24 years of experience in both the public and private sector will take over the helm of the Medford Electric Utility when current manager Mike Frey retires next month. Aldermen approved the hiring of Roy Mattson of Marshfield following a brief closed session during Tuesday’s city council meeting. Initially Mattson will be paid $61,200 which will go up to $62,200/year after six months and $63,200 upon completion of a year’s probationary period.

The Rib Lake School Board last week approved the sale of a parcel of land between Clearview Elementary School and Hwy 102 to the Village of Rib Lake for $8,100. The site is slated to be the location of a new medical clinic. Terms of the sale agreement include: In the event buyer does not, within five years of closing, or any time thereafter use the property for a medical or health care related clinic, the operators of which provide service to the general public, title to the property shall automatically revert back to the seller

Dick Gordon, Eau Claire, division of highways safety engineer, told county board members Wednesday afternoon of last week that the state highway commission will install traffic signals at the junction of highways 64 and 13 next spring. One of four intersections to be new stop-and-go corners, the project here has top priority, Gordon said. One hundred forty persons attended the welcoming home banquet given Sunday evening in the Holy Rosary school auditorium by the Medford Knights of Columbus in honor of the returned veterans of the council. Al Oster acted as toastmaster. Community singing was lead by Al Bauer and accompanied by Frank Hirsch at the piano. Ted Heinzen, grand knight, welcomed the veterans.

A rather slim delegation of the veterans of previous wars accompanied the American Legion boys in their parade Armistice Day from the Legion club rooms to the “retreat” ceremony at the World War veteran statue on the court house grounds. M. W. Ryan was the sole G. A. R. man to make the march. K. J. Urquhart and Al. Martens of the Spanish American War were in the parade.

On Thursday morning last occurred a quiet but interesting marriage. The young people whose lives and fortunes were united on this occasion were Mr. Hugh A. B. Kennedy of Rib Lake and Miss Nellie Spencer, of this city. The ceremony was performed at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Spencer by J. H. Wheelock, Esq., and none but relatives were present. Best wishes of warm friends.
