The construction timetable for the Hwy 13 project remains the same as crews move toward a completion date.

The Allman Street roundabout will be partially paved beginning on Friday with road access begin kept open for area residents and customers to businesses. The concrete work will continue the next week along with the east 24 feet of Hwy 13 north of Allman Street.

“I don’t think they will get it all done next week. There is roughly three weeks of concrete work to do,” DOT project consultant Don Andre said, Work on driveway aprons, sidewalks and colored concrete will also continue in the coming weeks.

Arlen Albrecht and Mike Wellner visited the Committee on Public Works last week to explain what the Citizens Library Committee needs in the way of environmental site reviews for the proposed library facility.

The City of Medford has solicited bird proposals for a Phase 1 environmental Site Assessment (ESA) for the three potential library sites. Those were from Ayres & Associates, Inc. of Eau Claire and Central Wisconsin Engineers & Architects, Inc. of Weston.

The bid from Ayres & Associates, Inc. came in at $9,750, while Central Wisconsin Engineers & Archtects, Inc. bid $10,700 for the same project.

Director of Public Works John Fales said, “Ayres is the one that came up with the closest to what we asked for and the best price.”

A banquet and mink style show at Medford senior high Saturday night, followed by a dance at the armory, and the Aviation Day Fly-in at Taylor County airport will cap Mink Festival USA.

Tickets for the 7 o’clock banquet in the M-room at MSHS were available at press deadline according to Mrs. Emil Falasky, executive secretary. Arrangements for the banquet were made by the Medford Kiwanis club and members of the Medford Business and Professional Women’s club will arrange table decorations.

Festival chairman Vincent Ackeret will be toastmaster at the dinner. The meal prayer will be given by Rev. Dennis Drews, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Whittlesey, Medford Mayor William Van Laarhoven, Sr. will welcome

September 12, 1946

The Paulson Construction Company has the contract for the 60x147 addition to the Gilman school, which will contain a gymnasium, an agriculture room, and a manual training room. The addition will be of masonry construction. Work will start as soon as the Polley school building is torn down from where materials will be taken for use in the construction of the addition.

September 16, 1921

J.E. Kennedy the fire inspector paid a visit to Medford Monday and Tuesday. He had a talk with the city council and a number of business men regarding fire hazards and the various conditions which enter into the fire insurance rates put upon business property.

Medford’s business district will be rerated in November and there are a number of things which Mr. Kennedy pointed out could be done to reduce the fire hazard of the district and to materially reduce the insurance rates.

Contractor Griffin has raised the first story of the W.C.T.U auditorium and with his present large force of men the entire structure will soon be up and enclosed. The lumber and material is supplied by the Medford Manufacturing Co. and Mr. Griffin says he never hauled better sawed lumber. *** Next Sunday, Sept. 13th the Wisconsin Central Lines will run an excursion train from Abbotsford to Butternut arriving at Butternut at about 11 o’clock a.m. returning at 7 o’clock p.m.
