It came down to having too many questions and not enough answers for the Medford planning commission Monday night as they tabled a request for a conditional use permit for a 19-duplex development on the city’s north side.
Bryan and Shane Schultz are developing a “community” of duplex homes to the west of their Northwoods Plaza location. The land for the project was annexed into the city earlier this year as commercial property. The plan calls for the Schultzes to build up to 19 duplexes catering toward retirees. According to city planner Bob Christensen, the developers do not intend to sub-divide the property, but plan on owning and leasing the duplexes and putting in private roads and a private sewer system to service the houses with a hook-up to city utilities.

We probably won’t know for sure until September 30, but judging from the verbal give and take at last week’s Library Steering Committee, it looks like the Medford Millpond site has the inside track when it comes to picking a site for Medford’s new public library.
In fact, Committee Member J. A.
O’Leary made a motion to that effect, which was seconded by Mike Wellner, but it was never put to a vote because it wasn’t on the agenda.
The Millpond site is some 180,000 square feet of city-owned land on the east side of the millpond, just across the river from the fishing pier at City Park.
Also in the running is the Medford Millwork site at the north end of Main Street, and the present library site.

Building up roads, blacktopping and other highway maintenance is being completed by the Taylor county highway department crew. A progress report was given this week by Gordon Hamrick, county highway commissioner.
Being completed on county trunk B near Gilman are five miles of sub-grade and sub-base course to bridge approaches at the village. The sub-grade will be completed this week east of the railroad, and the gravel crew is well along with the sub-base course west of the railroad. The grading crew will begin working on the next mile west within a week.

Mr. and Mrs. Chet Fahrenbach and Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Smith returned Sunday from a 700 mile trip to Ontario, Canada where they spent the week fishing. They camped at Klotz Lake, near Geraldton.

Plate glass faces are being put up this week in front of the hands on the court house clock. The clock has faces north, south, east and west, necessitating the placing of four of the large circular pieces of glass.
And they are large pieces, although they don’t look it from the ground. A visit to the dome, where J. C. Hoffman and Chas. Kaemmerer are doing the glass setting, shows that it is a care requiring job to handle and place the large circles. The works of the big clock look like a small well drilling outfit—too large, though, for vest pocket timepiece.

Chicago, Ill., Aug. 21.—Michael and John Cudahy have entered into an oil deal of enormous proportions. If their present plans materialize Chicago is to have a new industry, a rival of the great plant of the Standard Oil company at Whiting, and the first pipe line from the oil fields to enter its limits.
The Cudahys have purchased in Wells and Adams counties, Indiana, the entire plant and wells of the Northern Indiana Oil company. What price was paid is not known, but the purchase was made more than a year ago, and the fact only leaked out yesterday in the commercial circles of the city.
