Taylor County board members on the law enforcement and emergency services committee got their first look at two options for the new radio communications system and rough estimates of what it will cost.
The upgrade is necessary to comply with a Federal Communications Commission mandate that all public safety and business industrial land mobile radio systems operate in narrowband (12.5 kHz efficiency technology). In Taylor County, this would include law enforcement, fire departments, ambulance services and the highway department. According to the FCC, moving to the new format will allow the creation of additional channel capacity within the same radio spectrum and support more users. The deadline to begin operating in narrowband is January 1, 2013.

At a joint board meeting held on June 12, the Taylor and Clark Electric Cooperatives both voted unanimously to go ahead and study a merger of the two electric systems. Currently, Taylor Electric Cooperative, located in Medford, serves approximately 3,600 consumers along 745 miles of line in Taylor, Clark, Marathon and Lincoln counties. Clark Electric in Greenwood serves 7,400 consumers with 1,800 miles of line, including Clark, Chippewa, Taylor, Marathon, Wood and Jackson counties in central Wisconsin.
According to the general managers Dick Adler (Clark) and Mike Schaefer (Taylor) there appear to be strong possibilities to lowering the cost of electric service and extending more and improved services to their members throughout the seven county area.

Medford Co-operative Creamery, no longer entirely a butter producing institution, will this year become one of the few plants of its kind in Wisconsin in the one hundred million pounds of milk class.
Eighty seven million pounds of milk were handled there in 1945 and the 1946 intake is running 25% over last year’s figure.
Four hundred thirty thousand pounds of milk were taken in at the plant last Friday, possibly the year’s largest day though it may be exceeded this week or next.

Delton Ossell was struck by a Chevrolet car Sunday evening while walking and wheeling his bicycle on State Highway No. 13, between John Doctor’s place and the Little Black bridge. The wheel was demolished and the boy knocked down, but the driver of the car backed out of the wreckage and went on his way without waiting to see what damage was done, or help the lad home. The bicycle was given to the boy on his 13th birthday, which was last Memorial Day. The Chevrolet was going north and the time was about nine in the evening.

Farmers may be seen every morning carrying their milk to the Cheese factory, which is running full blast.
When will the people who travel the Highways, either with teams or on foot, be protected from dogs that worry the teams or frighten the people. If daylight was let through a few such dogs with a 45-70 Winchester it might be a lesson to train your dogs to stay inside of your own yards.
