Successful together
As we draw to the end of another school year, it is the perfect time to reflect on the lessons we have learned. We have learned to use technology in new ways, we have learned to find creative solutions to difficult problems, but most of all, we have learned that here in Loyal, when we stand together, we can do almost anything. Because of this strength, we have had a great school year and I would like to thank everyone who has had a part in this success.
This year, we celebrated the 50th Annual Easter Parade. Thank you to Polly Lindner, Terri Roscoe, Amy Humke, and Susan Stelzer for making this program special for the kindergarten and firstgrade students. Another thanks to the support staff members who set up for the event and made the programs. And finally, thank you to the parents and family members who attended the program. It was wonderful to continue this beloved tradition and I look forward to many more programs in the future.
Other events are also being organized for the end of the school year. The teachers are currently in the planning process for both 4K and kindergarten graduations. A couple of music concerts for the fifth- and sixth-grade students are also in the works. Smaller audiences will be allowed to attend in person, but all these events will also be recorded and shown on both Greyhound TV and Youtube to make sure that as many people as possible can watch the programs.
Another activity that is happening is summer school. It will run from June 10- June 30. The format will look much like it has in the past. Students were given options for both academic and enrichment courses. This year, there are even a couple science options for older students. Lunches will be served free of charge in the cafeteria after classes are done. Both students and staff members are excited to have this option again. Every year I have a few parents who ask what sorts of activities they can do with their children over summer vacation to help them improve academically. I found a great article in Education World entitled, “25 Activities to Keep Kids’ Brains Active in Summer.” The author suggests a variety of things like finding and preparing new recipes with your children. The measuring helps older children practice math skills and the mixing is a great way for younger children to use fine motor skills. Taking a healthy walk with your children to look for insects or plants adds to their activity level while also incorporating a bit of science into their day. Reading books, magazines, and even a cereal box is great practice for all children. One final time I would like to thank everyone for all the little things that you did to make this year successful. I look forward to coming back in the fall to what I hope will be a more normal school year. I hope everyone has a restful and relaxing summer.
