When a larger workspace was needed, owners Jeff and Missy Larson decided to expand Trademark Custom Cabinets into the former Cornell Corp. buildings, along State Hwy. 27 in Cornell.

“It’s nice to get away from the house and get a bigger area,” said Missy.

Trademark’s previous location was south of Cornell, near the Larsons’ house.

“This is kind of an ideal building for us,” said Jeff. Jeff has been in the cabinetry business for about 22 years. “We’re getting into the commercial end a little bit,” said Jeff, of Trademark’s expanding services, allowed by the extra space.

The business also recently got a CNC machine, which Jeff says has been useful when building commercial cabinetry, as they use it to cut out many of the pieces.

“The CNC is like a cabinet printer,” said Jeff.

Jeff is able to use a program to design the pieces, right from the office, and send the drawings to the CNC machine to cut them out.

“It saves a lot of time,” said Missy.

“We used to cut them out by hand,” said Jeff.

After the pieces are cut, Jeff says they edgeband the frameless cabinets.

Their son, Landon, helped get the CNC machine set up and running for the business, and even used it to make a farmhouse sign for his sister. Missy compared the machine to a large, and expensive, Cricut.

Trademark Custom Cabinets employees about five people, some of whom were added since the new location.

The business has been in the old Cornell Corp. buildings since around the first of the year, with the moving process beginning in December 2021.

“It took us a couple of weeks to get everything moved in,” said Jeff.

They still have more projects planned, like redoing the office area and painting outside. Missy says they are also working at getting the display room built and set up the way they want it.

“It’s in the works,” said Missy. The extra space afforded by the expansion also allowed other business opportunities to come up. Other buildings on the site are used for storage of large items, such as boats and campers, as part of the Larsons’ other business, J& M Larson Rentals.

The former office building was also remodeled into an apartment, which is rented out.

“We figured we might as well get all the buildings usable,” said Jeff.

Missy says it was nice to expand into the larger buildings and get the new machines in. “It’s a nice community to do it in,” said Jeff.
