Edgar Elementary School will host a family fun night on Monday, Oct. 31. A Halloween movie will be shown at 6 p.m.
Church picnic
Holy Family Parish, Poniatowski, will hold a fall picnic on Sunday, Oct. 16, after the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass. The parish will provide food but people are asked to bring a dish to pass. Bingo, cards and outdoor games (weather permitting) will be played.
Youth group
The St. John’s Youth Group in Edgar will rake the leaves of parishioners’ lawns who live in Edgar on Saturday, Oct. 29, starting at 10 a.m. Call the parish office to have your lawn raked at 715-3523011.
Camp fire
The Edgar Scouting program will host a “Campfire with the Boy Scouts” at 933 Edgewood Ave. in Edgar at 4:30 pm on Sunday, Oct. 16. There will be a campfire. Refreshments and snacks will be served. Anyone who is interested in joining Scouts is welcome to come. For more information, call 715-432-6877.
Youth group
St. John’s Parish Youth Group will hold a Youth Night on Monday, Oct. 10, starting at 5:30 p.m. The group meets in the basement of the parish center. The group is for youth ages fifth grade and up.
Trick or treating
The Village of Edgar has announced Halloween trick or treating will take place Sunday, Oct. 30, 3-5 p.m.
Story time
Parents and caregivers are invited to come to the Edgar Branch Public Library the first and third Tuesday of the month from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for Family Story Time.
The library welcomes families and others back this fall for popular in-person story times. The group will read books together, get up and move around a bit and learn the ABCs. The group may even be joined by a special guest from time to time.

Trunk or treat
St. John the Baptist Parish and Home & School Association will sponsor a “Trunk or Treat” event on Sunday, Oct. 30, from 2-3 p.m. in the church parking lot. Come for food, music, candy, and family fun. Prizes will be given for the best trunk decorations. Food donations will be collected for the Circle of Joy.
All participating vehicles must pre-register. Vehicles will provide their own candy. For vehicle registration forms or further details, please visit the parish office or the St. John’s website. This is a community-wide event and all are welcome.
Senior dinner
A senior citizen dinner sponsored by the Edgar Lions Club will be held on Thursday, Oct. 20. All meals will be in carry out containers and should be picked up between 5-6 p.m. at the Edgar Fire Station. To order your meal, call Marie 715-573-5616 or Kathy 715-721-6520 before Wednesday, Oct. 12.
Free breakfast
Edgar School District has announced it will participate in a new Universal Free Breakfast Program sponsored by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. All students qualify and there is no application for the family to complete.
While breakfasts will be free, lunches will not. Low income families are encouraged to apply for the Free or Reduced Meal Program offered through USDA.

Farmer’s market
The Edgar Farmers Market is open Fridays 2-6 p.m. at the intersection of Third and Birch Streets.
Medical equipment
The Edgar American Legion in Edgar has good, used medical equipment that can be loaned out. If you are in need, call Sylvia Fergot at 715-352-2221.
Free Screening
The Marathon County United Way will hold a free blood pressure screening every second Monday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon at Stark’s Floral, 109 W. Redwood St., Edgar. For more information, call 715-352-2577.
Senior events
St. Stephen ELCA has announced senior community events for October.
There will be board games and cards played Wednesday, Oct. 12, 1-3 p.m. Bingo is slated for Wednesday, Oct. 26, 1-3 p.m.
Refreshments and snacks are served at all senior events.
The events are held in the church basement which is handicapped accessible.

Pop-up class
Youth third grade and up are invited to a 4-H Foodie pop-up class on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. taught by Jasmine Carbajal, 4-H Associate Educator for Marathon and Wood counties, at Edgar Public School.
Carbajal will teach safe knife technique in making a chicken flatbread pizza.
