The Walk In Their Shoes lecture series will present John Armbruster, author of “Tailspin,” in two presentation at the end of May. One presentation will be on Sunday, May 29, 6 p.m. at the UW-Stevens Point Wausau Campus Center for Civic Engagement. A second talk will be Monday, May 30, 12:30 p.m. at the Edgar High School auditorium.
“Tailspin” tells the story of a World War II tail gunner who survived a four mile fall from an airplane without a parachute and survived an 18-month ordeal as a German prisoner of war, which included a 600 mile death march in 1945 across central Europe.
Forensics
Three Edgar High School students earned meals at the Wisconsin High School Forensic Association state speech festival held on Friday and Saturday. The medal winners were Kylie Miles-Kroening, who earned a silver medal for blended original and blended poetry’ Hailey Federwitz, who earned a silver for original poetry; and Emma Riehle, who earned a bronze for prose.
Top of their class
Edgar High School has announced that Lydia Huehnerfuss has been named Class of 2022 valedictorian. Salutatorian is Isabella Huehnerfuss.
Holy Family banquet
The Holy Family PCCW in Poniatowski will host a Mother/ Child banquet on Thursday, May 6. A potluck supper will begin at 6 p.m. Bingo and prizes will follow. All are invited.
Senior events
St. Stephen ELCA, Edgar, will host two senior events in May. The first will be a musical performance by Dan Gruetzmacher with refreshments and snacks on Wednesday, May 11, 1-3 p.m. A second event will be bingo with prizes on Wednesday, May 25, 1-3 p.m. Refreshments and snacks will be served.

Grab and go
Celebrate the start of summer by making seed bombs. Materials are available at the Edgar Branch Public Library through the month of May.
Using some basic materials and wild flower seeds, you can help spread some beautiful annual and perennial wildflowers selected specifically for the Midwest. These seeds are perfect for your backyard to help local pollinators and birds find nectar. Once fall comes, you can either mow them back or leave the plants to help feed wild birds and provide shelter for smaller animals.
Free lunch ends
Edgar Public Schools has announced that USDA funding for the free breakfast and lunch programs will end on June 2, the last day of the 2021-22 school year. Summer school is not included under these new guidelines. This means on June 3 meals go back to being “full pay.”
Dairy breakfast
The Edgar FFA Alumni has announced that it will hold a June Dairy Breakfast at the Larry and Jan Wendtland ginseng farm at 229550 Pheasant Falls Rd., Edgar, on Sunday, June 12.
The event will feature a petformation ting zoo and bounce house.
A first Holy Communion Mass will be held Sunday, May 1, at 1 p.m.
Chalk fest
An Edgar village art festival will be held on Friday, June 24, and Saturday, June 25, in the downtown area and at Oak Street Park.
A chalk fest will be held on sidewalks surrounding the Edgar Village Hall. A historical reenactment camp of historical Wisconsin will be erected in Oak Street Park. The Mill Church will offer a free-will pancake breakfast on Saturday morning. A car show on Redwood Street and a quilt show in the village hall will be held on Saturday. Spring concert
Edgar Elementary School has announced its “On Our Way To Awesome” spring concerts on Tuesday, May 10. A grades K-2 concert will be at 12:45 p.m. followed by a grades 3-5 concert at 1:45 p.m.
Book club
The Edgar Branch Public Library staff and Edgar Book Club on Tuesday, May 10, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., will discuss Melanie Benjamin’s historical fiction novel, “The Aviator’s Wife.”
No registration is required for the event and new people are always welcome to the Edgar Book Club. The group will meet outside, weather permitting. Call the Edgar Branch for more information.
Garage sales
The Village of Edgar has announced there will be a community garage sale Thursday and Friday, May 19-20.
