Victoria “Vicki” Ellen (Janda) Hugh, 73, Cornell, passed away peacefully, Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family and her best friend.

Vicki was born July 13, 1951, in Colorado Springs, Colo., to Richard and Ellen (LaRoche) Janda.

She grew up in Arlington Heights, Ill., and graduated from Scared Heart of Mary in 1969.

Vicki married Michael Hugh, Aug. 29, 1970. To this union, they had four children – Rachel, Kristen, Laura and David. They later divorced, after 31 years.

She worked different jobs over the years, including being a bank teller and a teacher’s aide. She loved music, and was the church organist and choir director.

Vicki had a very strong faith and was very active in her church. She did a lot of volunteering within her church. When her children were in school, she accompanied the school choir.

Outside of church, she also did a lot of volunteering, she helped with the after-school program, Girl Scouts, scorekeeper for sports. She was very active in her children and grandchildren’s life, she would attend all sports and activities.

She loved to sew and crochet; she made Easter dresses, prom dresses, wedding dresses and Halloween costumes. Vicki could make anything.

Vicki was also a member of the Cornell and Lake Holcombe Camaraderie Club.

She is survived by her mother – Ellen Janda; her children – Rachel (Bradley) Meyer, Kristen (Michael) Jahr, Laura Steinmetz (Dean Reilly) and David Mushroom Michael (Amy) Hugh; her adopted son/grandson – Kile Trevithick; grandchildren – Connor, Scout, Makayla (Alex), Justin (Sheena), Ashley, Alexis, Autumn, Isabel, Tatum, Preston, Paxton, Peyton, Payson and Paislee; great-grandchildren – Elizabeth and Baylor; siblings – Richard Janda, James (Pamela Jean) Janda and Phillip Janda; several nieces; nephews; other family members and her best friend – LuAnne Coggins.

She was preceded in death by her father – Richard Janda; her brother – Peter Janda; and her ex-husband – Michael Hugh.

Vicki will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. Services will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, Feb. 3, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Cornell. Visitation will begin at noon, and go until the start of service, at 3 p.m.

Following the service at the church, everyone is invited to the Cornell American Legion Hall, for a time of lunch and fellowship. A private family burial will take place a different day.
