Lois Mae “Sue” Roth Lois Mae “Sue” Roth

Lois Mae “Sue” Roth, 91, Cadott, peacefully entered eternity, Friday, July 5, at her home, with her daughter and sons beside her.

Sue was born March 20, 1933, to Edward and Lorraine (Waggoner) Seidlitz, Cornell.

The story goes, that when her uncle, Don Waggoner, first held her, he announced that Lois was not a name for a baby. He started singing the song Sweet Sue, as he carried her around and before long, it stuck.

So much so, that when she graduated from Cornell High School in 1951, and her name was announced, no one knew who Lois Mae was!

Sue loved music and dancing, with Rainbow Gardens in Cadott, her favorite dance hall. It was there that she met a handsome and soft-spoken man, who captured her heart instantly.

Three years later, Nov. 13, 1954, she proudly became Mrs. Leroy “Dunc” Roth, always saying that it was the best decision she ever made.

Sue worked at Northwestern Bank, from 1951-58, before starting the job she loved most, as a full-time mom and farm wife. Together, they made their home on a 120acre farm, at the end of the River Road in Cadott, for 50 years.

A special daughter, Kathy, was born in 1958, followed by son, Bruce (Sue) Roth, with children, Nicole, Shawn and Chris; daughter, Jeannine (Mike) Adair, with children, Elise and Fletcher; and son, Steve (Amy) Roth, with children, Conner, Josie and Cooper.

Sue was known for her excellent fish fry, which Dunc was always willing to provide for. Sue loved to entertain at her home or cabin, which included a meal, a special cake or dessert, followed by a few rounds of Euchre.

She was an organizer of trips or adventures to local events, including concerts and plays. Her travels included Alaska, Hawaii and Europe, as well as many states, while on their month-long honeymoon, and throughout their marriage. She enjoyed riding behind Dunc on the cycle, with the Lake Superior circle being special.

The cabin on Popple Lake in Jim Falls, brought friends and family together, to laugh and relax. Although always up for going out, Sue also loved the beauty and peacefulness right outside her own front door.

Sue was a member of Big Drywood Lutheran Church, Goetz Birthday Club, Red Hats, Cadott Bowling League, senior citizens and held the position of treasurer for the Ladies Aid, Homemakers Club and the Town of Goetz. She also served as a leader for 4-H and the farmers union.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband – Leroy “Dunc” Roth, in 2004; daughter – Kathy, in 2008; her parents – Ed and Lorraine Seidlitz; Dunc’s parents – Clarence and Bessie Roth; infant son – in 1967; granddaughter – Nicole Roth, in 2018; her sister – Judy Hebert; brothers – Dick, Don, Gary and Keith Seidlitz; sisters-in-law – Jeanette Peltier, Pearl Seidlitz and Nancy Seidlitz; brothersin- law – Tom Peltier and Ollie Herbert; special friend – Bud Normand; and special aunts – Ollie Mae Gingras and Bev Clark.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lenhardt and Dr. Olatunji, for their medical expertise and mom’s amazing care team, for their love, dedication and support, to fulfill mom’s daily life and unite as a team, to keep her at home, where she longed to be.

Visitation will be held from 10-11:45 a.m., Thursday, July 11, at Big Drywood Lutheran Church, with a funeral service at noon, with Vern Weeks officiating, with a luncheon to follow, at the church. Interment will be at 2 p.m., at the Brooklawn Cemetery in Cadott.
