William “Bill” August LeCleir


William “Bill” August LeCleir passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Dove Healthcare-Bloomer, at the age of 89.
Bill was born Jan. 11, 1935, along with twin brother, Robert, in Chippewa Falls, to August and Mary (Agnew) LeCleir.
He attended Notre Dame Elementary School and graduated from McDonell High School in 1952.
Bill served in the United States Marine Corps for three years, and served in Korea, during the conflict there.
He married his high school sweetheart, Beverly “Bev” Zwiefelhofer, July 10, 1956, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Bloomer. Together, Bill and Bev raised three daughters, Barb, Sue and Karen.
Bill began working as a Chippewa County traffic officer in 1960, then as a deputy sheriff with the sheriff’s department, followed by chief deputy of Chippewa County. He ended his career as the undersheriff of Chippewa County, when he retired in 1989. He graduated from the National FBI Academy in Quantico, Va., in 1979.
He was a faithful member of All Saints Catholic Parish in Cadott (formerly St. Rose of Lima), the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Wisconsin Sheriff’s and Deputy Sheriff’s Association, the Cadott VFW and American Legion. Bill was honored to participate in the Freedom Honor Flight in September 2016, accompanied by his daughter, Barb.
Bill was a fun-loving person, who loved his family and they always came first. He and Bev spent many years, enjoying summers at their trailer in Chetek, at Summer Haven Resort. They enjoyed dancing, playing cards frequently, and traveling through the United States and Canada.
He is survived by his loving wife – Beverly LeCleir; daughters – Barb, Sue and Karen (Ted) Zeman; grandchildren – Danielle Brown, Corey (Kirsten) Brown, Nicholas (Maddie) Zeman, Andrew Zeman and Abby Zeman; great-grandchildren – Lyla Zeman and Lincoln Zeman; brothers – Thomas (Anita) LeCleir and David LeCleir; sisters-in-law – LucyAnn LeCleir, Wanda LeCleir, Joan (Dick) Monpas and Judy Zwiefelhofer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents – August and Mary LeCleir; brothers – John, Stephen and Robert LeCleir; father- and mother-in-law – Joe and Anna Zwiefelhofer; sisters-in-law – Arlene Berge and her husband Gerald, and Judy LeCleir; and brother-in-law – Larry Zwiefelhofer.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 14, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cadott, with Father William Felix officiating. Visitation will be held from noon-1:45 p.m., Friday, at the church.
Interment will be in the St. Rose Catholic Cemetery, Town of Sigel, Chippewa County, with military honors conducted by the Cadott American Legion and VFW.
