Gloria Sheryl Schwetz, 89, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024, at Chippewa Manor in Chippewa Falls, surrounded by family.

Gloria was born Feb. 3, 1934, to Henry (Tully) and Signa Lodahl, in Stanley.

She was a graduate of Stanley High School. After high school, Gloria worked at Thorp Finance and later, moved to Eau Claire, to work as a nurse’s aide at Luther Hospital.

Gloria married the love of her life, William Schwetz, in 1955, at Saint Rose of Lima Church in Cadott. They first lived at Fort Bragg, in North Carolina, where William was stationed in the Army. They later moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where they had the first of four children. William and Gloria returned to Cadott, in 1958, where they raised their family and farmed for over 40 years.

In her younger years, Gloria enjoyed singing and received awards at state competitions.

 She was an active member of Saint Rose and the Sigel Homemaker’s Club. She enjoyed embroidering, bowling and traveling, especially in her later years, to visit her children and grandchildren.

Gloria is remembered for her embroidering and known for giving away hundreds of her handcrafted towels.

She is survived by her husband – William; three daughters – Diane (Ray Kaczorowski) Schwetz, Houston, Texas, Jane (Mark) Remmers, Fort Collins, Colo., JoAnn Danielson (Bart Chapek), Cadott; 11 grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; and sister – Lois (Duane) Meyer.

She was preceded in death by her son – Gary Schwetz; brother – Ken Lodahl; sister – Shirley Watson; her parents; her mother and father-in-law; and numerous in-laws.

A Mass of Christian burial was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 10, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cadott, with Father William Felix officiating. Interment will be in the St. Rose Catholic Cemetery, Town of Sigel, Chippewa County.

Visitation was from 9-11 a.m., Wednesday morning, at the church.
