Fredrick “Fred” Franklin Hodowanic

Fredrick “Fred” Franklin Hodowanic, 83, Cornell, passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023, at Marshfield Medical Center in Weston.

Fredrick was born Dec. 10, 1940, to Franklin and Eleanor (Blanchard) Hodowanic, in the Town of Ruby, in Chippewa County.

He graduated from Holcombe High School in 1959.

Fred married Darlene Raatz in 1963, and to this union, they had three children.

He resided in the Cornell/Holcombe area, most of his life. He owned and operated Hoots Tire Center, and Hoots Auction Service, for a total of 25 years.

Fred enjoyed camping, fishing, going to car shows, driving his 1964 Buick Electra convertible in local parades, and traveling whenever he could. He also enjoyed cooking for all his family and friends, and singing with his sisters. He is survived by his three children – Todd (Melissa) Hodowanic, Colfax, Jill (Kip) Knez, Chippewa Falls, and Paul (Tracy) Hodowanic, Cornell; his grandchildren – Kayla (Eric) Francken, Brent Hodowanic (Molly), Aaron Knez (Myranda) and Brooke Hodowanic; one greatgrandchild – Olivia Francken; his sister – Ann Vowels; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents – Franklin and Eleanor Hodowanic; and his two sisters – Janet and Mary Jo.

A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Borton-Leiser Funeral Home in Cornell.
