Becky Helland-Phillippi

Becky Helland-Phillippi, 67, Boyd, passed away at home, Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023.

Becky was born Rebecca Ann Ballou Nov. 6, 1955.

Her parents divorced when she was young. Her mom, Luella (Alsop) Ballou married Scott Colbenson, who Becky considered her dad, and together, they raised Becky.

She grew up in the Holcombe area, graduating from Lake Holcombe High School in 1973.

Becky had many jobs throughout her life. Among others, she was employed by the Brunswick Corporation in Illinois, worked in the paper mill in Ladysmith, and retired from UW-Eau Claire in 2016.

She married Dean Phillippi March 8, 2022. Although they were only married a short time, they were companions for 40 years, since meeting while they were both employed at Weathershield, in Ladysmith.

Becky enjoyed reading, scrapbooking, card making, dancing, swimming and going to thrift sales. Her greatest joy was spending time with her two precious granddaughters, Emily and Katelynn.

She is survived by her husband – Dean, Boyd; her son – Jason (Carrie) Helland, and their two daughters – Emily and Katelynn, Menomonie; Dean’s children – Brent (Missy) Phillippi, Boyd, and Lisa Karen (fiancé Nando), Edgar; mother-in-law – Ruth Phillippi, Boyd; stepmother – Mary Colbenson, Holcombe, and her children – Wayne Hemenway, Arizona, and Kristine and Troy Hemenway, Holcombe.

She was preceded in death by her mom and dad; her brother – Victor “Bear” Colbenson; and Dean’s daughter – Christina Trevino.

Becky will be deeply missed by her family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 23, at Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley. Inurnment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery, with a luncheon at the Delmar Town Hall afterward.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
