Wayne A. Belanger, 89, Holcombe, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Bloomer.

Wayne was born May 14, 1934, to Arthur and Margaret (Schroeder) Belanger, in Stratford.

He served in the U.S. Army in 1954, during the Korean War, and served one and a half years stationed in Korea.

Wayne married Geraldine Obernberger in 1958, his wife of 65 years. Then, in 1959, they purchased a bar in Milan, and called it “Wayne & Geri’s.” They sold their bar in Milan, and opened another “Wayne & Geri’s” in Athens.

They sold the bar in 1971, and started Belanger Trucking and Belanger Granite. Wayne retired in the 1980s, and they moved full-time to their cabin in Holcombe.

Wayne loved the outdoors, he was an avid hunter. He also enjoyed fishing, playing pranks on family and friends, traveling, golfing, bowling, pool league and baseball. He was quick with a joke and loved spending time with his family, friends and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife – Geraldine; six children – Nancy (JJ), Darrell (Kris), Debbie, Corinne (Tim) James (Rhonda) and Cheryl (Brian); many grandchildren; greatgrandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings – Fern (Walter) Baumann, Jean (Victor) Streamer, Lyle (Donna Mae) Belanger and Myra Boneske.

A celebration of life will be held at the Lake Holcombe Lions Pavilion on County Hwy. M in Holcombe, Sunday Aug. 13, from 1-5 p.m.
