Gerald “Charlie” Edward Thon

It is with sadness, that we announce the passing of Gerald “Charlie” Edward Thon, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who peacefully was welcomed into God’s arms, Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025.

Gerald was born April 3, 1937, to John L. and Mabel C. (Schroeder) Thon, in Cornell.

He grew up in Cornell, along with his seven sisters and three brothers.

Gerald married the love of his life, Sharon C. McMahon, Sept. 29, 1959. Together, they would raise four boys in Cornell.

He worked for many years at the paper mill in Cornell, before retiring.

In addition to Gerald’s love of family, he was also an avid fisherman, and loved watching his Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers.

Gerald was always willing to lend a helping hand, and could be found mowing lawns and shoveling snow.

He is survived by his beloved wife – Sharon; his sons – Robin (Rhonda) Thon, Zephyrhills, Fla., Timothy (Pamela) Thon, Ladysmith, James (Janet) Thon, Eau Claire, and Thomas (Debbie) Thon, Bloomer; and by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents – John and Mabel Thon; his in-laws – Francis and Evelyn McMahon; and eight of his siblings.

Per the family’s wishes, no services are planned at this time.
