Robert Bakke

Robert “Bob” A. Bakke, age 85, of Abbotsford, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Curtiss. Rev. Ken Schmidt will preside. Please join the family for a visitation at the church beginning at 9 a.m. until the time of the service. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.

Robert was born on March 16, 1939, the son of Arnold and Jean (Phillips) Bakke in La Crosse. He graduated from Owen-Withee High School in 1957. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard and trained at Fort Leonard Wood and Fort Knox from 1957-58. On October 10, 1964, he was united in marriage to Karen Weideman at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Curtiss. Together they farmed in the Town of Hoard until 2005. They moved to Abbotsford in 2015.

Robert was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Curtiss. He played and coached softball in the young farmer’s league. He was a 4-H leader, member of the Owen-Withee FFA Alumni and a dairy judging trainer. Bob enjoyed fishing, especially in Canada, hunting deer, fox and coyote, and traveling. Most importantly, he loved and cherished his family and attended many of his grandchildren’s activities. Bob also passed along a legacy of love of animals and agriculture to all who knew him. Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Karen; four children: Danny (Karleen) Bakke, Lori (Robert) Nagel, Dennis (Sheila) Bakke and Debra (James) James; 15 grandchildren: Heather (Shawn) Sweeney, Ryan Bakke, Kyle Bakke, Sarah (Sam) Soderberg, John Nagel, Ben Nagel, Isaac Nagel, Brooke (Ray) Krause, Britny (Riley) Knack, Serena Bakke (fiancé, Lincoln Klabon), Sierra Bakke, Kevin James, Sean James, Mallory James and Noelle James; and seven great-grandchildren: Trey, Brynleigh, Sydney, Milton, Mason, Vivian and Walter. He also survived by Karen’s family: Jane Wisnefske Borchardt, Robert (Janice) Weideman, Rita (William) Mueller, Richard Weideman, Robin Weideman, Larry Lawrence, Lana (Jeff) Fitzmaurice and Ronald Weideman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Lisa in infancy; his sister, Margaret in infancy; a sister-in-law, Lois Lawrence; two brothers-in-law: George Borchardt and Leroy Wisnefske and his in-laws: Robert and Helen Weideman.
