Harold “Cub” L. Helgerson
Harold “Cub” L. Helgerson, 90, Cornell, went to meet his savior, Jesus Christ, Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025. while he was at Cornell Health Services care center.
Cub was born June 8, 1934, to Otto L. and Violet M. (Brown) Helgerson, in Cornell.
He had good memories of Scouting under Helge Grotte, and sports teams and the great leadership of “Mac” McChesney, football, basketball and baseball. He graduated with the Class of 1954.
Cub met Margaret “Marge” Schultz in Gilman. They were wed June 18, 1955, 69 years, seven months and seven days ago. They lived in Milwaukee, where Cub worked at A& P Tea Company.
He did volunteer basketball coaching at the Boys Club of America.
Cub and his family moved back to Cornell, in 1960, and was employed at the Cornell Paper Mill, where he worked until retirement, in 1996.
He enjoyed community work and volunteering, which included coaching Little League baseball, 22 years on the Cornell Fire Department and especially loved following high school sports games.
Snowmobiling was special to him in the winter, along with hunting season every fall, with his son and grandsons.
Cub and Marge enjoyed some travel in the USA, throughout the years.
He is survived by his wife – Marge; son – Terry (P’nuts); daughter – Suzanne (Alan) Hulbert; grandsons – Darren (Christen), Adam (Andrea), Nick (Ainsley) and Jesse; great-grandchildren – Bryce, Isaac, Elijah, Landon and Jerimiah Helgerson, and Mariah, Kadyn and Kyndra Werner; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents – Otto and Violet Helgerson; in-laws – Ed and Gertie Schultz, Pat Schultz and Jim Schultz; granddaughter – Durenda, brother –Bob, and his wife – Carol Helgerson; and niece – Marilyn Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 8, at Northwoods Church in Cornell, with Phil Halverson officiating. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., and go until the start of services, at 11 a.m.
