Randolph Hargraves
Randolph “Randy” Wilbert Hargraves, age 77, of Wausau, passed away Thursday, Dec. 26, 2024.
A Mass of Christian burial took place on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Parish (1104 S 9th Ave., Wausau). Father Samuel Martin presided. The family was joined for visitation at the church beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday until the time of the funeral service. Military honors were provided by Wausau American Legion Post #10.
Randy was born on St. Patrick’s Day March 17, 1947, the son of Wilbert and Helen (Hrobsky) Hargraves and the step-son of Dorothy (Denzine) Hargraves. He graduatec from Abbotsford High School in 1966. Randy was honored to serve in the U.S. Air Force in the Vietnam War from 1966-70. He was a Staff Sergeant-Strategic Air Command and was the crew chief on the B-52 bombers. Randy was stationed in Agana, Guam, during the mission: “Arc Light” then stationed in Minot, N.D. After his discharge, he earned a degree from the Eau Claire Technical College. Randy retired at the age of 69 from Veritas Steel in Wausau.
On September 15,1973, Randy was united in marriage to JoAnn Literski at Holy Family Catholic Church in Poniatowski. He was a “very proud” father of Steven (Yamile) and Scott and a loving grandfather of Ana Gabriela. Randy is further survived by his many nieces and nephews and godchildren: Ana Hargraves, Marsha Groshek, Kevin Prelipp and Steve Kemps; brothers-in-law: Jim (Sherry) Literski, Duane (Linda) Literski, Ralph (Tammy) Literski and Jack Kemps; sisters-in-law: Florine (Tom) Bunkelman and Michalene Literski; step-sister-in-law, Mary Ann Piller and many wonderful neighbors and friends.
Randy was the last survivor of his family. Those that preceded him are his parents; his sisters: Patricia “Pat” Kemps, Josephine “Joanie” Hargraves, Charlene Ross and Darlene Prelipp; step-brothers: Ronald and Douglas Denzine and brothers-in-law: Dennis Ross and Jim Prelipp; and his second parents who were dearly loved, Leo and Virginia Literski.
A special thank you to Aspirus Cardiology who kept Randy’s heart beating for 25 years after his first heart attack, Dr. Bailey from the V.A., to the EMTs and Medics from Franklin, WI, and St. Luke's Hospital, Milwaukee. Very grateful to Kevin Hanson from Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home for bringing Randy back home to rest.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Wausau American Legion Post 10 or St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery in Milan.
