Janet Meacham
Janet L. Meacham, 69, Stratford, formerly of Greenwood, passed away at Marshfield Medical Center, in Marshfield, on Friday, Jan. 3, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, in Loyal, with Rev. Emmanuel Famiyeh officiating. Pallbearers will be Rorie Schmitz, Nick Meacham, Joe Meacham, Kaden Wynn, Marshall Schultze and Colton Schultze. Burial will take place in St. Stephen’s Catholic Cemetery, in Chili, at a later date. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday, Jan. 8, from 4-8 p.m., and again on Thursday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Janet Lee Schmitz was born on July 1, 1955, in Marshfield, the daughter of Leroy C. and Audrey M. (Bauer) Schmitz. She was raised on the family farm in the town of Fremont, rural Chili, and received her education in the Loyal area, graduating from Loyal High School in 1973. After completing her education, Janet waitressed at Woolworth’s in Marshfield, and was the assistant manager at Trade Home Shoes in Marshfield. She was united in marriage to Lynn F. Meacham on July 30, 1977, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Chili. They resided in Chili for 18 years, where they raised their daughter, Jenny. Through the years, Janet held various jobs, including working for Danny Meyer at his beef farm, randomly bartending at various establishments and was a CNA home health aide and the liaison supervisor for Gemini Health Care until retiring in 2008. She then stayed home and helped take care of her grandson, Canon.
She was a former member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Chili, and was involved with the Central Wisconsin Draft Horse Show in Marshfield for more than 20 years.
Janet had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her family and friends, anything and everything horse related, gardening, riding motorcycle, having her nails done, puzzles and playing cards. After moving into assisted living in Stratford, she loved long phone calls with her friends, especially Brenda.
She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Jenny Lee Meacham of Greenwood; her grandson, Canon Madison of Greenwood; her siblings: Randall (Kathy) Schmitz of Loyal, Rodney Schmitz of Loyal, Julie (Allan) Trachte of Rhinelander, Rick Schmitz of Rib Lake, Peter Schmitz of Rib Lake and Paul (Bonnie) Schmitz of Wawanesa, Manitoba, Canada; her very special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and other relatives and friends.
