Lawrence Lampsa

Lawrence V. Lampsa, 92, Downers Grove, Ill., formerly of Loyal, passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024. A memorial service for Larry will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, at the Loyal United Methodist Church in Loyal. Rev. Kathy Jury will officiate and burial will follow in the Loyal Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Lawrence Victor Lampsa was born on Nov. 10, 1931, in Milwaukee, the son of Edward and Esther (Perren) Lampsa. He was raised in the town of Genesee and graduated from Waukesha High School in 1950. Larry joined the United States Navy and served as an aviation mechanic in the Korean War aboard the USS Oriskany and the USS Boxer. He met his future wife, Carol M. Swattler, in Milwaukee, and they were united in marriage on Feb. 27, 1960, in Waukesha. Larry graduated with a master of science in education from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee in 1966, and continued to work in the education field for over 25 years. He started as a fifth grade teacher and ended his educational career as the superintendent of the Loyal School District. After his educational career, he drove semis and retired from a long working career at Smith Feed in Loyal.

Larry had many interests, but especially loved spending time with family, gardening, playing poker, sheepshead, bowling and golf. For many years, he created the messages displayed outside of the Loyal United Methodist Church.

He will be dearly missed by his three sons: David (Lesli) of Wausau, Brian (Carla) of Downers Grove, Ill., and Jeff (Amber) of New Berlin; five grandchildren: Bethany (Ryan) Cody, Mathew, Christopher, Maggie and Sarah Lampsa; one great-grandchild, Reed Cody; one sister, Jacqueline Van Willigen (John) of Lexington, Ky.; one brother: Edward Lampsa of Palmyra; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his brother, Alvin Lampsa.
