Betty Jane Reichert, 98, of Whittlesey, died peacefully on Oct. 6, 2024 at her home while under the care of her family and Hope Hospice.

A funeral mass will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11, 2024 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Whittlesey with Fr. Patrick McConnell officiating. Interment will follow at Chelsea Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m. Friday at OLPH.

Betty was born June 16, 1926 in Milwaukee to Harold and Margaret (Seiser) Lageman. The family moved to Westboro and Betty graduated from Westboro High School in 1944. Following high school, Betty worked for Lake Superior Power Company in Rib Lake.

On April 27, 1946, she married Charles G. Reichert in Westboro. They farmed in the town of Chelsea where they also raised their large family.

Betty was deeply devoted to her faith throughout her life and was an active member of OLPH. She taught catechism, assisted with confirmations, and served on the parish council. Additionally, she held various leadership roles within the deanery for the Superior diocese, including president, secretary, and treasurer. Betty also organized numerous retreats and other church activities. She approached everything she did with determination and always went the extra mile for the causes she believed in. Although she never expected any recognition for her service, in 2001, she was awarded, by the Bishop, the Superior Diocese Council of the Catholic Women’s Pax Christi Award.

Betty also enjoyed being a part of the Whittlesey Quilters Club; sewing; gardening; reading; doing crossword puzzles; and spending time with her family.

She is survived by nine children, Betty J. “B.J.” Reichert of Westboro, Jeanette Prince of Chippewa Falls, Richard (Sandy) Reichert of Clinton, Ill., Dennis (Debbie) Reichert of Ogema, Marianne (Ed) DeRubis of Green Bay, John (Linda) Reichert of Westboro, Susan Gregori of Medford, Charles (Cathy) Reichert of Mooresboro, N.C., Loree (Buck) Rawhouser of Colfax; a sister-in-law, Arlis Lageman of Whittlesey; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Charles, on Feb. 16, 2002; an infant son, James Reichert; her parents; siblings, Eleanor Poncek, Kenneth and Harold “Bud” Lageman; sons-in-law, Dan Prince and Klaus Gregori; and three great-grandchildren.
