Hazel Rogstad

Hazel B. Rogstad, 101, Loyal, died at Three Oaks Health Services in Marshfield, on Friday, Aug. 9, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal. Rev. Emmanuel Famiyeh will officiate and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sean Rogstad, Michael Rogstad, Cole Rogstad, Michael Culver, Caleb Culver and Ryan Bruvold. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

Hazel Bernice Young was born on Oct. 10, 1922, in Loyal, to Bert and Celia (Clouse) Young. She was raised and received her education in the Loyal area, attending Mack School. On Sept. 14, 1943, she was united in marriage to Vernon Peter Rogstad at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal. They lived in rural Loyal where they farmed until 1956. Hazel supported her husband in the family business of general contracting as well as their Wick Homes dealership. She was a loving mother and raising her three children was the joy of her life. They moved into the city of Loyal in 1971, where she worked as a waitress at the Amber Inn and Spanky’s. She lived in Loyal until entering Three Oaks Health Services in Marshfield in 2021.

She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and was active in the PCCW at the church in her younger years.

Hazel had many interests, but especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and baking, playing cards, league bowling, being at their cottage, leisure car riding and traveling.

She is survived by two sons: Terry (Marilyn) Rogstad of Gainesville, Va., and Dennis Rogstad of Hudson; daughter-in-law: Nancy Rogstad-Aschenbrenner of Marshfield; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, in 1998; one son, Steven, in 1976; daughter-in-law, Sherry Rogstad; her parents; father-in-law, Edward Rogstad, and mother-in-law, Hildegard Rogstad; three sisters: Edith Verhalen, Luella Butterbrodt and Norma Kuehling; one brother, Calvin Young; brothers-in-law: Edgar Verhalen, William Butterbrodt and Norman Kuehling; and a sister-in-law, Marge Young.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church in her honor.
