Maynard Bowe
Maynard Bowe, 80, Cornell, died on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the Cornell Care Center surrounded by his family.
Maynard suffered a stroke on June 1, his 56th wedding anniversary. The stroke left him unable to walk or speak, especially devastating for a man who loved to wander, and who never met someone he couldn’t strike up a conversation with.
Maynard Allen Bowe was born on Nov. 3, 1943, in Eau Claire to Edward and Mary (nee Anderson) Bowe. The Bowe family moved to the town of Eaton near Greenwood when Maynard was 9 years old. Maynard would call that farm home for the next 41 years.
Maynard graduated from Greenwood High School in 1962. He married Jeanette Kocher on June 1, 1968, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood. After their marriage, they bought the dairy farm from Maynard’s parents. Maynard and Jean and their boys raised registered Holstein dairy cattle, as well as many other birds and animals. The Bowe family sponsored several small animal swap meets on their farm. Maynard especially loved horses. He shared his love for horses as a 4-H leader and as a long-time member of the Clark County Pleasure Riders. Maynard was instrumental in developing the CCPR Riding Arena in Greenwood. Maynard was also active with the Clark County Holstein Breeders and he served on the Clark County Fair Board.
Like many other farmers, Maynard also worked off the farm. He spent several years preparing auction sites for Landini Auction Service. He enjoyed the work, but especially enjoyed all the people he met.
After selling their farm in 1993, Maynard and Jean built a new home near the Greenwood Park and worked at the Weathershield plant in Greenwood until their retirement.
Maynard and Jean then moved to Cornell where Maynard enjoyed exploring the food pantry and was very active at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, also serving on their church council. Some of Maynard’s other interests included woodworking, leatherworking and reading. Maynard also enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in Glidden, especially during deer season. All of these activities were even better if Maynard could do them with his sons and his grandkids!

Basehor, Kan., and Margaret (Edward) Hill of Conyers, Ga.
He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren: Bridget, Ben, Ryan, Nicholas (Madey),
Kaylee, Anna, Lacey, Hutson, Aspen, Isabella, Sophia, Evangelina and Jackson; three great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother and sister-in-law, Clayton and Arlene Bowe.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Cornell. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. at the church. A luncheon will follow the service. A private burial will be held at a later date.
