Peter “Pete” Dejno

Peter J. “Pete” Dejno, 83, Greenwood, died peacefully Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at home, with his family at his bedside.

Peter John Dejno was born Nov. 23, 1940, in Independence, the son of Thomas and Valeria (Suchla) Dejno, Sr. As a young child, his family moved to the Bloomer area where he was raised and received his education, graduating from Chippewa Falls High School in 1959. After high school, Peter entered the U.S. Air Force and served honorably from 1959 to 1964 in Strategic Air Command. On Sept. 30, 1967, Peter married Lucy Meinen at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Tilden. Peter worked as an IT manager for many years, retiring from Federal-Mogul in Lake City, Minn., in 2005. After retiring, they moved to Greenwood.

Peter was a devoted family man and enjoyed spending time with his wife, kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood, and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. Peter also enjoyed gardening as a Master Gardener; spending time up north at DejnOaks; and volunteering with the Greenwood American Legion-Wallis Hinker Brux Post 238, where he served as a past commander and Honor Guard member.

Peter is survived by his wife, Lucy; one daughter, Amy (Kurt) Humke of Greenwood; two sons: Alan (Michelle) Dejno of Neenah and Adam (Colleen) Dejno of Roseville, Minn.; one brother, Ray (Bette) Dejno of Chippewa Falls; three sisters-in-law: Lavonne “Tip” Dejno and Coreen Dejno of Chippewa Falls and Joan Dejno of Warroad, Minn.; eight grandchildren: Kassandra (Marixa Wepfer) Humke, Aarica (Taner) Bochman, Karson Humke, Austen Humke, Grace (Hayden) Krueger, Grant Dejno, Emerson Dejno and Alice Dejno; six great-grandchildren: Frankie, AJ, Rheya, Kynton, Nyah and Tevyn; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Delores Back, Eugene, Tom Jr., Ernie, Everest and Gary Dejno.

Visitation was held on Sunday, June 30, 2024, from 4-8 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood, and again on Monday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2024, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Fr. William Felix and Fr. Emmanuel Famiyeh co-celebrating the funeral mass. Military rites were conducted by the Greenwood American Legion-Wallis Hinker Brux Post 238. Interment was held at Northern Wisconsin Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Spooner at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Pallbearers will be Karson Humke, Austen Humke, Grant Dejno, Hayden Krueger, Taner Bochman, Kynton La Mont, Lindsey Dejno and Glen Schemenauer.
