1942-2024

Kenneth H. Klahn, 81 of Gilman, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Aspirus Medford Hospital with his family by his side. He was born in Poynette, on Sept. 27, 1942 to the late Herbert and Vivian (Karow) Klahn. Ken grew up near Madison and graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1961. Ken entered the Air Force in 1963 and served his country in Vietnam. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his exceptional achievement and heroism while participating in aerial flight. He also received the Purple Heart.

Upon returning, he married Debbie Bunnell on Oct. 27, 1967. The couple raised their two children in McFarland, and he had a successful business career running Alpha Distributors for many years.

After retirement, he moved to Gilman, where he enjoyed the solitude of the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was also an avid sports fan, especially the Packers and Brewers.

Ken was always involved in giving back to his community. He was a member of the Miller Dam Lake Association, Taylor County Tourism Committee, the Lions Club and the Taylor County Maple Festival.

Ken’s life was a testament of his unwavering faith. He was an active and cherished member of Zion Lutheran Church. His commitment to his faith was evident through the many roles he took within the church community. He served as an Elder and always had a spirit of generosity and kindness that touched the lives of many.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Debbie; two children, Kenneth (Nickie) Klahn of Madison and Denice Schultz of Marshall; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his sister, Jill (Terry) Janke of Stanley. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Philip and Randy; and sisters, Jackie and Joanie.

Visitation and the funeral service will take place on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church-Gilman with visitation starting at 11 a.m. and the service at 1 p.m. with Pastor Brian Beardsley officiating. Fellowship will follow the funeral service at Longshot’s on Miller Dam.

Burial will take place on Monday, July 1, 2024 at Highland Memory Gardens in Madison with Military Honors at 11 a.m. A celebration of Ken’s life will be held following the burial at Dexter’s Pub in Madison.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Zion Lutheran Church – Gilman.
