A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon on Friday, June 14, 2024, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Rozellville, where he was a member. The Rev. Monsignor Joseph Diermeier will serve as the celebrant with Rev. Sengole Vethanayagam as the concelebrant. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until time of services. A rosary service for Jerry will begin at 8:50 a.m. at the church on Friday. Jerry’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Jerry was born on September 13, 1942, in Marshfield, son of the late William and Myrtle (Tremmel) Weis. He grew up working on the family farm and graduated from Stratford High School. After graduation, he served in the United States Army National Guard. On August 14, 1965, he married the love of his life, Nancy Doberstein of Dorchester. Together, they raised three children while tending to thousands of turkeys on their farm each year. Jerry was also employed at Schuld Manufacturing and later Reigel Plumbing & Heating as a steamfitter welder until retirement.

If one were to say what defined Jerry, it was his skills as an avid outdoorsman, enjoying all that nature had to offer. He especially enjoyed the great times and memories made at the hunting land in Pittsville. “The 80” has served as a gathering and hunting place for his family for the last 50+ years! Jerry loved to hunt deer, turkeys, bear, and trap bobcat, otter, raccoon, red fox, muskrat, mink and beaver during each of their seasons. His collection of mounts and tanned hides can be found throughout his cabin and home, with the stories to accompany each of them. Fishing was a favorite pastime, especially in retirement, as he enjoyed visiting his favorite fishing spots at Camp 8, Lake Dexter, DuBay Dam, and the Big Eau Pleine Iron Bridge. Jerry was also an avid gardener, producing berries, sweet corn, and various vegetables for the whole community to enjoy. He was characterized by his unique ability to strike up a conversation about fishing, hunting, or gardening with anybody he met. As a young adult, Jerry was a boxer in the Golden Gloves. He enjoyed playing softball until he was well into his 50s. He loved baseball and was a die-hard Brewers Fan. His memory will be cherished by his wife Nancy for their 62 years together as Jerry was her lover and soulmate now and forever; his children: Michael (Lynette) Weis of Wausau, Dayne (Jeff) Oertel of Stratford and Troy (Amber) Weis of Genoa City; and grandchildren: Chelsea Weis, Cassandra (Brady) Zell, Zachary Weis, Drew (Kaylee) Oertel, Erik (Sadie Blohowiak) Oertel, Christian Weis and Angel Grace. He is survived by siblings: Mary (Karl) Wingert, Ruth (Jim) Odau, Tim (Judy) Weis, Dennis (Yonnie) Weis and Rosie (Bob) Carlson; sisters-in-law: Carol Weis, Kathy Honeywell and Kay Weis and brother-in-law, Verlyn Herman. He was preceded in death by his beautiful granddaughter Grace LeeAnn; parents William and Myrtle Weis, and siblings: Ervin Weis, Bev (John) Wingert, Bob Weis, Helen (Bob) Johnson, Carol Jean (Barney) Herman, Jim Weis, Ted Weis and Betty (Bill) Severt.

If desired, the family is accepting memorials in Jerry’s name for various children’s charities to be determined later.
