Eugene “Gene” Lucht

Eugene “Gene” E. Lucht, 96, Spencer, passed away on

Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Marshfield Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Christ Lutheran Church, Marshfield, with visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Rev. Andrew Belt will officiate. Burial will take place in Loyal Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.

Gene was born on May 3,1928, in the town of Sherman, Clark County, to Arthur and Lena (Sorenson) Lucht. He attended grade school at Spokeville in the town of Sherman and Loyal High School. Gene met Dona Lindekugel on a blind date arranged by his cousin, Alan Voigt. They would later be united in marriage on Aug. 11,1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal and celebrated 72 years together.

Gene and Dona farmed in Spokeville for 15 years before moving to Spencer in 1966, where Gene worked as a mechanic at the Farmers Co-Op. He also was a volunteer fireman for 40-plus years and was a member of the Edgar Steam Club. Gene enjoyed going to car shows with his Model T and playing accordion and keyboard by ear, since he couldn't read music. He also took great pride in mowing his lawn and keeping his yard pristine.

He is survived by his wife, Dona; sons, Michael (Luane) Lucht and Mark (Susanne) Lucht, all of Spencer; grandchildren: Kami (Brian) Haffenbredl of Bessemer, Mich., Mathew (Kristi) Lucht of Spencer, and Jake Lucht (Joelle Frey) of Unity; and great-grandchildren: Logan, Steve, Jameson and Averilyn. He is further survived by his sister-in-law, Darlene Lucht.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steve Lucht (who died unexpectedly in 2010); granddaughter, Stacie Lucht; and brother, Gerald Lucht.

Memorials can be designated to Christ Lutheran Church in Marshfield. The family would like to extend a special thanks for the wonderful care Gene received at Marshfield Medical Center.
