Irene Brooks
1923-2024
Irene Brooks, 100, of Jump River, passed away peacefully at home in her sleep on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 with her family by her side. She was born Irene Marion Pinkert on May 27, 1923, at home in Hannibal to the late William and Alvina (Haberkorn) Pinkert, the second youngest in a family of 14. In 1941 she graduated from Hannibal High School, and on Aug. 16, 1947, she married Walter Brooks of Jump River. They were married for 61 years, and in addition to her six children, she has 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandson. While married, she was able to take many trips within the U.S. including Alaska, as well as a trip to Germany and Holland. She was very active in the Jump River community for many years and also with her church, New Hope Presbyterian. She enjoyed quilting and crafting, gardening, cooking/baking, playing games, and spending time with her family. She had made over 100 quilts, many of which she gave away to family. Most recently, in July of 2023, she was the Centenarian Grand Marshall for the Jump River Fourth of July parade. When asked what her secret was to living to be 100, she replied…. “Oh, I don’t know – I just lived!”
She is survived by her six children, Alison (Phil) Snyder of Denver, Colo., Cathy (Ed) Couillard of Hartland, Connie (Mark) Lekies of Medford, Terry Brooks of Jump River, Tracy (Ray) Tkachuk of Lublin, and Trudy Brooks (John Kalmon) of Jump River. She was preceded in death by her parents, (13) siblings, and her husband, Walter.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., with the service beginning at 11 a.m. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Mount Nebo Cemetery. Plombon Funeral Service assisted the family.
