She was the daughter of Floyd and Myrtle Hoffman, and the fifth of their nine children. She was born in New Richmond, in June, 1929, and lived there through her fifth grade year. She was a granddaughter of John C. Hoffman, who was a pastor of the (now) United Methodist Church in New Richmond. She completed her secondary schooling in Cumberland, graduating from high school in 1947. She later earned an Associate of Arts degree at the Medford branch campus of the University of Wisconsin. She was married for 44 years to Donald Brisbin, her high school sweetheart, until he passed away in 1991. They raised four children, spending most of their married years in Medford.
Dorothy began working at the new hospital in Medford prior to its opening in 1962, and retired from there in 1998. She was a member of the Wisconsin Hospital Financial Management Association for many years, and served for several years as a District Director. In her position as Business Office Supervisor she functioned as the chief financial officer, and as such she worked on the Medicare Pilot Program in conjunction with the Wisconsin Hospital Association.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, seven of her siblings, and by her daughter, Wendy Viegut, formerly of Green Bay. Dorothy’s survivors include her sons, Richard and Robert, and her daughter, Connie Shebilske, of Salisbury, N.C., Saint Paul, Minn., and Larsen, respectively. Also surviving her are her youngest sister, Linda Facklam of Saint Paul; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and fourteen nephews and nieces.
