1947-2024

David “Punky” J. Tom, age 76, of Rib Lake, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at his home after battling cancer for a short time. Dave was born on Aug. 8, 1947, in Phillips, to the late Joseph and Sue (Deal) Tom. Growing up in Lugerville, he attended Lugerville and Phillips Schools. He served in the Army National Guard for seven years. Dave then went on to become a machinist, working for several companies in Medford, before retiring in 2012 from Enerquip. Dave enjoyed spending his time outdoors hunting, fishing, and camping. He spent much of his life chasing whitetail, musky, and walleye throughout the Northwoods of Wisconsin. It brought him great joy to teach his children and grandchildren to do the same and pass on his love of the outdoors. He especially enjoyed camping trips with Darlene and their friends along the shores of Lake Namakagon where they spent countless days fishing and sitting around campfires. When he wasn’t camping, you could find Dave snoozing in his recliner or watching the Brewers or Packers with his dog, Max. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sports and activities.

Dave is survived by the love of his life, Darlene Peterson; his children, Brenda (the late Ben) Jones, of Big Bend, Peggy (Jason) Junemann, of Rudolph, Dale (Melissa) Tom, of Gardner, Mass., Sara (Adam) Carlson, of Medford, and Chad (Deb) Thums, of Madison; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Ben Jones, Alison and Austin Junemann, Brittany Montgomery, Cody and Wyatt Tom, Nick Thums, and Remi and Walker Carlson; and three great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his nieces and his former wife, Phyllis.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Susan; his brother, Clyde (Gerri) Tom; his sister, Delores (Lee) Lamoreaux; his grandson, Dustin Hanson; and two nephews and one niece.

In accordance with Dave’s wishes, there will be a private family service at a later date. Generations Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family. You may view David’s obituary and leave online condolences at generationsfuneral.com.
