Roberta A. Garwood

1947-2024

Roberta A. Garwood, 76, of Rib Lake, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Rib Lake Health Services, under the care of Hope Hospice.

A visitation for Roberta took place at Hemer- Pickerign Funeral Home on Monday, April 29, 2024 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Burial took place at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in North Carolina.

Roberta was born to Robert and Thelma Rochelle in Jacksonville, N.C. on Sept. 24, 1947. She married Jim Garwood and he preceded her in death in 2023. She was a long time employee of the Yellow Cab Company, before starting her own cab company with Jim. She continued to dispatch until retirement. She moved to Wisconsin in 2018 to be closer to her daughter.

Roberta was a great wife and loving mother. She loved spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed going to Baptist Church services every week. She will be remembered as strong willed and always willing to help others. Roberta will be greatly missed by so many people.

Roberta is survived by her children, Lynn Swokla of Jacksonville, N.C., Steve (Robin) Rochelle of Maple Hill, N.C., Kevin Rochelle of Medford, Ada (Joel) Winchell of Medford, and Brian “Keith” (Andrea) Garwood of Garner, N.C.; grandchildren, Vanessa Garwood, Hunter Garwood, Tyson Garwood, Jonathan Swokla, Jessica Gross, Sara Phillips, Matthew Rochelle, Kelly Shepard, Trisha Winchell, Shelby Winchell, Ryan Rochelle, Destiny Rochelle, Tyler Rochelle, Tasha Owens; and 20 greatgrandchildren.

Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Thelma; husband, Jim Garwood; son, James Gregory “Greg” Garwood; siblings, Bill Rochelle, Marie Young, Robert Louis Rochelle, Kenny Rochelle, and Jack Rochelle.
