Georgia E. “Tootsie” Sweda

Georgia E. “Tootsie” Sweda, age 98, of Thorp, passed away on Monday, Jan. 22, 2024 at Oakbrook Health & Rehab in Thorp. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024 at Holy Assumption Orthodox Church, in Lublin, with Fr. Bill Neumann officiating. Burial took place in the church cemetery with her nephews serving as pallbearers. Visitation was held at the church, on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Georgia Eloise Reed was born on July 13, 1925 in Aleppo Township, Greene County, Pa., to Elmer L. and Georgia (Kuhn) Reed. She was raised and received her education in Weimer, Pa., where she attended grade school and graduated from high school. After completing

her education, Tootsie worked at Stouffer’s in Chicago, and also was a hostess where she supervised and trained waitresses. She was united to Steve Sweda in Chicago. After her husband’s death in December of 2000, she moved to Thorp where she has resided until her death.

Tootsie had many interests, but especially loved singing, listening to piano music, and helping her mother with canning.

She is survived by three sisters-in-law, Kathryn Blumel of Des Plaines, Ill., Nettie (Jim) Kowalczyk of Boyd, Pauline (Ray) Lewan of Lublin; two brothers-inlaw, Harry of Lublin and Don of Rolling Meadows, Ill.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Tootsie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Steve; three sisters, Marjorie, Anita and Mary Lou; and one brother, Frank.
