Robert Gosse Robert Gosse

Robert “Bob” P. Gosse, age 76, of Abbotsford, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024 at the Colonial Center in Colby under the tender care of St. Croix Hospice.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. A visitation will be held from 12 noon until the time of the service Sunday at the funeral home.

Bob was born on April 8, 1947, the son of Melvin and Betty (Krueger) Gosse in Wausau. After graduating from Colby High School in 1965, he pursued a career in auto mechanics, entering the apprenticeship program at Dale Chevrolet in Waukesha. Being his own boss worked well for him. After moving to Curtiss in 1970 and working for Radlinger Chevrolet in Dorchester, Bob purchased a filling station in Curtiss. From there, he expanded with a second station in Colby.

In the mid 1970’s , Bob was given an opportunity to buy a cab over semi tractor and so his over the road trucking began. Many family sacrifices were made to provide this steady income. He retired from his many years of driving in 2009. Bob became involved with the city government of Abbotsford, being elected alderman. He had time then to fish at Miller Dam and have morning coffee with the guys.

Bob enjoyed car racing of all kinds, even entering his personal car, which he named Syncopation, in the drag races in Union Grove in his earlier years. His pride and joy was the old Carver boat he owned. He passed the keys to his son, Jeremy, and loved seeing and hearing stories of the boat being used.

Bob is survived by his wife, Sandi; his five children: Jonathan (Tyherrona) Gosse, Jeremy (Glynda) Gosse, Jimmy (Mary) Gosse, Jered (April) Gosse and Tova (Eric) Eliason; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He is further survived by his six siblings: Mike (Sue) Gosse, Peggy (Mark)Winchester, Bill (Luanne) Gosse, Brenda Wiese, Barb (Dan) Jorgensen and Theresa (Scott) Stai; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Dean Wiese.
