Mathias “Matt” Alvin Jari
Mathias “Matt” Alvin Jari, 84, of Medford, died Saturday Jan. 6, 2024 at The Waterford at Colby while under the care of St. Croix Hospice. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 3 p.m., Sunday Jan. 14, 2024 in the school auditorium at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford. The funeral mass will be at 3 p.m. Due to church renovations, please enter through the school doors on Washington Ave.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated and will go to a veteran’s memorial stone in Matt’s honor at the Medford Veteran’s Park.
Matt was born Feb. 1, 1939 in Medford to Joseph Sr. and Augusta (Makovec) Jari. He graduated from Medford High School in 1957. He then joined the U.S. Army National Guard and served three years.
On May 22, 1960 he married Anna Vesnefsky. Together they had four children. She preceded him in death on July 23, 1988.
On Aug. 19, 1989 he married Carole Carlson. They resided in Medford. She survives.
Matt worked for the Gad Cheese Factory, then did road construction, and then worked for the Taylor

County Hwy Dept for 30 years until his retirement, where his main job was operating the rock crusher.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping. He loved to work in the woods, cutting logs for firewood and cutting balsam boughs. All his life, he recycled old metals, such as copper, iron, brass, tin and aluminum. He also enjoyed his many trips to Alaska, Colorado to visit family, and North Dakota to fish. He lived his whole life in Taylor County.
He is survived by his four children, Debra (Dave) Kaja of Withee, Rick (Renee Marquette) Jari of Rice Lake, Randy (Heidi) Jari of Rothschild, and Todd Jari of Denver, Colo.; two brothers, Robert (Laverne) Jari, James (Lois) Jari, all of Medford; seven step-children; grandchildren, Rick Jr. (Kylie) Jari of Cameron, Tara (Clayton) Macone of Shell Lake, JoHanna (Brian) Hundley of Prairie Farm, Ryan Jari of Hatley, Morgan Jari of Wisconsin Rapids, Aidan Jari-Bertram of Denver, Colo., Richell (Jordan) Dziak of Portage, Rindi (Justin) Boie of Big Lake, Minn.; many step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many step-greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ann; a daughter-in-law, Julie Jari; siblings, Joseph Jari, Margaret (Bob) Barker, Josephine Ziegler, Marie Jari; a step-sister, Barb Zinkowich; and a stepbrother, Joseph Grzegorek.
