Interment followed at Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends were welcomed from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Rosary was recited at 8:45 a.m. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.
Therese was born on October 8, 1935, the daughter of Michael and Amelia (Lang) Geiger in the Town of Mayville on the family farm. She had various chores, including working with the bovines. While in grade school, she sometimes stayed with her lonely grandmother and was happy to do so, as it also got her out of milking cows. At the age of 14, Therese entered a convent, School Sisters of St. Frances in Milwaukee. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Alverno College in Milwaukee and a master’s degree in administration from DePaul University in Chicago.
Therese taught grade school in Illinois from 195471 and then was principal in Illinois and Wisconsin from 1972-83. In 1983, she became the education coordinator in Middleton and worked at Land’s End in the phone center and training new employees until retiring. Therese moved back to Dorchester in 1990 where she was the religious education coordinator for St. Louis in Dorchester, St. Bernard in Abbotsford and Holy Rosary in Owen. She also taught English to priests when they arrived from other countries. Therese was involved with many organizations, including Principal Associations, board of trustees for JFK Prep High School and organizer and planner for many conventions and workshops. She also enjoyed designing and manufacturing garments for the oncology department at Marshfield Clinic, wove rugs and placemats, created a variety of crafts, liked to sew and made quilts for her family members. Most importantly, Therese loved her Lord, children of all ages, pizza and ice cream.
Therese is survived by her two siblings: Mark Geiger and Jane (Dick) Austin; two sisters-in-law: Patricia Geiger and Carol Geiger; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Elizabeth “Betty”; five siblings: Cyril, David, Norbert, Margaret (Donald) Peissig and Paul; and two sisters-in-law: Lois Geiger and Geraldine Geiger.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Amy for her vigilance, companionship and generosity, the Marshfield Medical staff for their compassionate care, Father Timothy Oudenhoven for his guidance and friendship and Jake, Tolea, Everly and Abner for bringing her joy and comfort.
