Gerald “Gerry” Edwin Fox Jr., 74 of Medford, (formerly of Fredericksburg, Iowa) passed away peacefully at the Marshfield Medical Center on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023 surrounded by loving family. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Monday, November 6 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Medford with Rev. Nancy Amacher officiating. Military honors provided by the Medford Area Military Honors Team immediately followed the service at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Sumner, Iowa.

Visitation was 7 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

The service was live-streamed on St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Medford’s facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/StPaulsMedford Gerry was born on September 21, 1949 to Gerald Sr. and Louise (Rueber) Fox in Sumner, Iowa. He was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Maynard, Iowa on Oct. 16, 1949. He was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Arlington, Iowa on April 7, 1963. Gerry graduated from Sumner High School in May 1968. Gerry enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September 1968 with bootcamp in San Diego, Calif. He then went on for medical training at the Naval Hospital Corps School in San Diego. Gerry served on the USS Conyngham and was honorably discharged on Nov. 11, 1973.

Gerry met the love of his life, Loris Pleggenkuhle while on leave and they were married on Jan. 19, 1974. To this union three children were born, Timothy (Lisa) of Stetsonville, Jean (Aaron) Brockhaus of Medford, and Thomas (Heather) of Dorchester; grandchildren, Shaya and Shakira Brockhaus, Braylon, Kadance, Kingston and Dawson Fox; Sophia, Trinity, Tavian and Savannah Fox.

Gerry’s ambitions began as a farmer in 1976 until 1985 when he relocated his family to Medford. He worked for Phillips Plastics in Medford. He was the founder of Jogeti Plastic Decorating and Assembly LLC which was started in his garage and was later expanded to a larger facility. During his retirement he enjoyed fishing, hunting, observing wildlife, playing cards, classic car shows, spending time with his family and snuggling with his beloved kitty, Mr. Monk. He treasured every moment he could spend on his boat with family. Gerry was also an avid sports fan cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers. Although he didn’t advertise this fact, he could be found watching the Hallmark Channel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his fatherin- law, Robert Pleggenkuhle; and mother-in-law, Dolores Pleggenkuhle.

He is survived by his wife, Loris; one sister, Patricia (Marion) Bush of Fredericksburg, Iowa; his three children; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and Mr. Monk. He was a gentle soul and will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.
