Logan W. Winger

1929-2023

Logan W. Winger age 93 of Gilman, passed away peacefully surrounded by his granddaughters on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023 at Our House Assisted Living in Janesville. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until Noon Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2023 at Henke- Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Road, Janesville. Funeral services followed at 12 Noon Tuesday, Aug. 15 at the funeral home with military rites following the service at the funeral home conducted by Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post # 1621. The family had request casual western wear for those able in attendance.

Further services will be held at Noon Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023 at the Gilman Funeral Home, with Rev. Bev Thompson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Thursday. Interment will follow with Military Rites in the Perkinstown Cemetery, Taylor County, WI.

Logan was born in Bloom Township, Richland County, on Nov. 19, 1929, the son of Fred and Edith (Salisbury) Winger. He grew up in Richland County where he attended school.

Logan served in the U.S. Air Force from Oct. 31, 1950 to Nov. 5, 1954. While serving in the Air Force, he met the love of his life, Irmgard Polzin in Germany and they later married. Shortly after being discharged from the service, he went to work at the Janesville General Motors plant where he was employed for over 30 years until retiring in 1984. During this time, he and Irmgard resided in Albany. After retirement they moved to Perkinstown in Taylor County where he continued to reside until recently when he moved to Janesville to be near relatives and receive care for his failing health.

Logan was an avid horseman and had been a member of Tri County Riders Horse Club. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He was an outstanding craftsman at woodworking. He loved a good poker game and showed no mercy to his grandchildren at the poker table. Above all else, his main interest was his family, they were his pride and joy.

Logan’s family wishes to express a sincere thank you to the staff at Our House Assisted Living for the care that he received.

Logan Winger is survived by his son, Elton (Dianna) Winger; four grandchildren, Jody (Ken) Gearhart, Jeanna Winger, Amy (Kevin) Spears, Christopher Winger; five great-grandchildren, Justin Bruce, Codi Papcke, Jorie Maasz, Katie Spears, Liza Spears; four great-greatgrandchildren; one brother, Ron (Laura) Winger.

Logan was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Irmgard Winger on Oct. 9, 2012. His parents; brother, Fred Winger; and sister, Esther Hart also predeceased him.
