Galen Ellenbecker

Galen C. Ellenbecker, age 77, of Dorchester, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at his home.

A memorial gathering was held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday, July 31, 2023, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford.

Galen was born on November 7, 1945, the son of Clarence and Katherine (Heindl) Ellenbecker, in Marshfield. He graduated from Abbotsford High School. Galen served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Louisiana and South Carolina. On July 2, 1966, he was united in marriage to Patricia Drapes. Galen farmed before driving truck for Meig’s in Abbotsford for many years.

Galen was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting everything from squirrel to bear, but he especially loved his annual whitetail hunts. He collected guns and repaired and refurbished them. Galen was in a pistol league and was a skilled marksman.

Galen is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia; three children: Scott Ellenbecker, Terry (Kerry) Ellenbecker, both of Dorchester, and Catina (Jed) Phillips of Abbeville, Ala.; six grandchildren: Chelsea Phillips, Jacob Phillips, Alex Ellenbecker, Trevor Ellenbecker, Serena Meyer and Jenna Widman. He is further survived by his brother, Gary Ellenbecker of Medford, his sister-inlaw, Sharon Ellenbecker of Dorchester, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Bernette, his brother, Kenneth and his uncle and aunt, Henry and Cecelia Felbruegge.
