James “Jim” D. Koontz
1932-2023
James “Jim” D. Koontz, 91, of Eau Claire, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023, at his home. Jim was born May 27, 1932 in Milwaukee, to Emanuel and Ethel (Grube) Koontz. At the age of 12, Jim moved to Westboro, where he graduated high school in 1950. After high school, Jim went on to serve in the United States Air Force where he served in Korea until 1955. From there, Jim attended the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy and served as a trooper for 26 years. After retirement as a state patrol officer, he worked for the U.S. Marshall Service.
Jim was a member of the Masonic Sanctuary 347, Scottish Rite, and Tripoli Shriner. Jim was an avid fly fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed duck hunting with his special friend Tim. Jim enjoyed cooking and preparing family dinners.
Jim is survived by his children, Dennis (Becky) Koontz of Eau Claire, David Koontz of Eau Claire, Julie Engfer of Ogema; grandchildren, Adam Koontz of Fall Creek, Geoffrey (Melissa) Koontz of Eau Claire, Thomas Seidl of Ogema; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; daughter, Barbara; son-in-law, Gregg Engfer; and brothers, Jerry and Allan.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday June 3, at Saving Grace Lutheran Church, 3735 Jeffers Road, Eau Claire. Pastor David Irgens will officiate. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Saving Grace Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of James can be given to Saving Grace Lutheran Church.
