Members of veterans organizations will conduct Memorial Day observances on Monday, May 29.

GILMAN

Western Taylor County American Legion Post 359 and Bellinger-Lublin-Gilman VFW Post 6186 will begin Memorial Day services at Donald Cemetery at 9 a.m. Services will be held at Huron Russian Orthodox Cemetery at 9:45 a.m., Huron Presbyterian Cemetery at 9:55 a.m., Huron Catholic Cemetery at 10:05 a.m., Yellow River Cemetery at 10:20 a.m. and Meadowbrook Cemetery in Gilman at 11 a.m.

JUMP RIVER

Members of the Hugh Warner VFW Post 2977 and Auxiliary will conduct Memorial Day services at the clubhouse at 9:30 a.m., LaFollette Bridge in Jump River at 10 a.m., Hannibal Cemetery at 10:30 a.m., and Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Jump River at 11:00 a.m. The Jump River Community Center will serve a baked chicken and Polish sausage dinner at the center from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

LUBLIN

Members of Abramowicz-Kaczmarczyk-Cwikla American Legion Post 547 and Auxiliary will conduct Memorial Day services at St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Cemetery at 9:30 a.m., St.

Stanislaus Catholic Church Cemetery at 9:45 a.m., Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery at 10:30 a.m., Holy Assumption Orthodox Church Cemetery at 11 a.m., Maplehurst Cemetery at 11:30 a.m., Apostolic Church Cemetery (corner of Hwy 64 and CTH T) at noon and Perkinstown Community Church Cemetery at 12:30 p.m., on May 30.

The post will serve its annual barbecue chicken dinner on Sunday, May 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Lublin Park pavilion.

MEDFORD

Legacy Wall Stone Dedication Ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial Wall and Flag Field in Medford, on May 29, at 10 a.m. music and 10:30 formal program to start. All of the Medford area Veterans organizations invite you to attend our program to honor the memory of those that gave their lives in the service of our nation. We will again have the “Ringing of the Bell” and release of balloons and “The reading of the names: of 111 soldiers from Taylor County that gave their lives in service to our country. We will also read the names of the 48 service men and women who have served our country and are being honored with the placement of a stone in our Memory Wall. WE ASK FAMILY MEMBERS OF THOSE 48 SERVICE MEN and WOMEN, TO PLEASE LET YOUR FAMILY KNOW ABOUT THIS EVENT AND INVITE THEM TO ATTEND.

Again this year “Red Higgins and Freedom Train Band” will provide live music for our program beginning at 10 a.m. Red and his band will be playing at the Medford VFW Bar in the afternoon about 1 p.m. The public is welcome to attend this event. We ask all who attend bring their own chairs as there is no seating at this event, we do have handicapped accessibility to the area from the Flag Field parking lot to the front of the wall and a wheel chair parking, elderly seating area right in front of the speakers stand.

The memorial program will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will last approximately one hour. There is a limited amount of parking at the flag field site for the elderly and handicapped, others are encouraged to use the street and parking lot at the Medford Public Library and the Enerquip MFG and walk to the site. If you are not able to walk to the site please arrive early and we plan to have some volunteers to take you over to the Flag Field site. We will have some shelter for the band and handicapped are so that we’ll be able to have our program at the site if we are having a light rain shower we ask all who attend to wear appropriate clothing and bring an umbrella. We will only move to the Medford Jr. High auditorium if storms are predicted. Please stay tuned to WKEB after 8 a.m. for our announcement Memorial Day.

RIB LAKE

Lehman-Clendenning American Legion Post 274 and Auxiliary will conduct Memorial Day services at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery at 9 a.m. and St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. in the Town of Greenwood.

At 10:30 a.m., a Memorial Day Parade will be held in the Village of Rib Lake on McComb Ave. with service at the Veterans Memorial Park.

A wreath will be placed in Rib Lake at 11 a.m. to remember Naval Veterans who died at sea. A service at Lakeview Park will follow where a roll call of deceased veterans will be read with a poppy dropped as each name is read.

There will be no parade or service at Veterans Park on McComb Avenue. An alternate parade route will be on Pearl St. and will continue to Lakeview Park for a service, stopping along to lay a wreath in the lake to remembers the servicemen who died at sea.

At Lakeview Park, a roll call of deceased veterans will be read with a poppy dropped as each name is read. All veterans are invited to walk in the parade.

SPIRIT

The Spirit American Legion Post 452 will be rendering honors May 29 at the following cemeteries: Finlander Cemetery at 8:15 a.m.; Clifford Cemetery at 8:35 a.m.; St. Mary’s Cemetery, at 8:55 a.m.; Knox Cemetery, at 9:15 a.m.; Garden of Memories at 10 a.m.; Levitt Creek Cemetery at 10:30 a.m.; Ogema Hillside Cemetery, at 11 a.m. The following events will take place in the Town of Spirit at the Town Hall: Post 452 Axillary luncheon at 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. and Post 452 Annual Memorial Day Program at 1 p.m. Immediately following the Memorial Day program, all guests are invited to the Spirit Hillcrest Cemetery where honors will be rendered.

STETSONVILLE

Boxrucker-Berry American Legion Post 519 and Auxiliary will display their Field of Flags and will hold a honor guard and taps ceremony at 9 a.m. at the Legion clubhouse.

THORP

The Thorp Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9057 will host a series of Memorial Day Observances at area rural cemeteries on, Monday May 29. The schedule is as follows: Sylvan Cemetery (Town of Reseburg), at 9:15 a.m.; Butlerville Cemetery (Town of Butler), at 9:45 a.m.; Worden Cemetery Fernwal Ave. Church of the Brethren, at 10:15 a.m.; Worden Cemetery, CTH N, at 10:30 a.m.; Taft Town Cemetery, at 11:15 a.m.; St. Mary of Czestochowa, at 11:30 a.m.; Eidsvold Cemetery, at 11:50 a.m.; St. Bernard’s-St. Hedwig’s Cemetery, at 12:20 p.m.; Potluck following at Reseburg Town Hall. All Thorp VFW members are urged to participate and should meet at the Town of Reseburg Hall at 9 a.m.

WESTBORO

Premeau-Schauss VFW Post 7817 of Westboro will be conducting Memorial Day Services on Monday, May 30th starting with flag raising at 9 a.m. at the VFW Hall and parade to North Side Cemetery. Services will follow at Chelsea Community Cemetery and ending at Mt. Olive Cemetery. The Rib Lake Band will be marching and the VFW Auxiliary will be serving a BBQ/Hot Dog plate lunch at the VFW Hall after ceremonies. Community members are also invited to a garage sale and brat fry June 10 at the VFW Hall in Westboro.
